Bound in publisher's textured cream paper-covered boards over quarter art vellum titled and ruled in gilt color pictorial endpapers blue ribbon marker. Near Fine with light wear and yellowing to covers several small chips to upper and lower board edges and light bleed-through from glue used to affix prints. Contents lightly toned binding tight. In a possibly original acetate jacket clouded and yellowed and somewhat chipped at fold ends.<br /> <br /> <p>An exquisite and lovingly-designed book by the Australian bookplate collector Percy Neville Barnett. Barnett took great care over the twenty or so limited edition books he published pasting the prints in himself. Hiroshige is a paean half in verse to the great ukiyo-e master renowned for his landscapes and night scenes: "Made the whole world seem more mellow / With your lovely soothing color / Hiroshige! <p>: Japanese leporello bound accordion style binding with bright red cloth boards in a pale yellow carboard original slipcase. Slipcase has white label on the front with black text to the front and spine with minor blemishes – front upper left where price tag might have been removed and a dent at the top of rear cover. Red cloth boards are in near fine condition with only one small white to the front and a small stain in the lower right corner on the rear board. All corners are sharp with no wear or bumping. The boards are perfectly attached to the accordion pages with no tears and the folding text block is straight and solid with no damage. The interior pages are clean with no tears chips creases or previous owner marks. Contains twenty of Hiroshige's drawings of fish decorated with poetry in Japanese other text is in English. Following print reproductions is an identification guide with small b&w illustrations of the relevant print and English translations of the poems. First Edition. Unpaginated but approximately 54 pages.</p> Metropolitan Museum of Art hardcover
