‎Quotes of the Dalai Lama Series: The Wisdom Tree‎

‎Hay House India 2010. Softcover. New. This is a compilation of wonderful and inspirational quotes by one of the world’s most renowned practitioner of the 2500-year-old teachings of Buddhism Tenzin Gyatso popularly known as the Dali Lama. In 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace not only for his personification of the goal of Tibetan Liberation but much more so for the influence he has had on people all over the world in guiding them on their personal spiritual quests. If we are to understand the true nature of our minds we must stop remembering the past and stop thinking of the future. True love and compassion exists when the suffering of all others become unbearable – whether they be friends mere acquaintances or even enemies. A monk who had been held captive and brutally tortured for years in an effort to force him to renounce his faith was asked on his release if he had been afraid. He thought for a while then smiled and said ‘Yes I was afraid. Very afraid. I was afraid towards the end that I would lose compassion for those who tortured me’. We must always fight for our rights and in the cause of truth. But always ensure that your fight is just and fought with a kindly attitude. True happiness is possible only in a society where material development co-exists with spiritual progress. Printed Pages: 112. Hay House India paperback‎

‎Quotes of Buddha Series: The Wisdom Tree‎

‎Hay House India 2011. Softcover. New. Almost all Indians who have been to school grow up with a fair and firm knowledge of the bare facts of the Budha’s life and the essential features of his teachings. So well is the chapter on the Budha in our history book taught or more to the point so well is this chapter examined that these details remain with us long after practically everything else in our text books has been forgotten. We all know that Sidharth was a prince of the Shakya clan. That his father was the powerful Suddhodana and his mother the beautiful Maya. We know that the prince was born in the garden at Lumbini while Maya was on her way from Kapilavastu to her parents’ home for the childbirth. A wise sage Asita predicted that the little boy would grow up either to be a very powerful king or after renouncing the world a great teacher. To pre-empt the second possibility Suddhodana kept the young prince cloistered in a beautiful palace and provided him with all the pleasures of the world. Bored by the idleness of his life Sidhartha asked his attendant Channa to drive him through the city. Three excursions came in quick succession and on these three excursions he saw three sights which were to influence the course of his life and fulfill the second part of the sage’s prophecy. First he saw an old man bent with age shuffling painfully along the road. This book is a compilation of 101 quotes of his most famous quotes. Printed Pages: 112. Hay House India paperback‎

‎Quotes of Mahatma Gandhi Series: The Wisdom Tree‎

‎Hay House India 2010. Softcover. New. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi stands out as a towering figure – given his lofty moral stature – on the international stage more than six decades after his death. He was at the forefront of India’s freedom movement which was based on ahimsa non-violence. Gandhiji inspired movements for freedom across the world especially in other parts of Asia and Africa. Born on 2 October 1869 at Porbandar Gujarat he absorbed very early in life the experiences that would play an important role in his adulthood. The Indian classics especially the fable of Raja Harishchandra known for his honesty made a great impact on the young Gandhi. In his schooldays Gandhi was an average student and somehow managed to pass his matriculation examination. In September 1888 Gandhi went to London to be trained as a barrister. There he interacted with members of the Theosophical Society where Buddhist and Hindu literature was studied. He soon became interested in religious thought and started to read the holy books of Hinduism Christianity and other religions. On 30 January 1948 Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse a Hindu right-wing extremist who mistakenly believed that Gandhiji was responsible for the partition of the country. Jawaharlal Nehru lamented his death thus: ‘The light has gone out of our lives and there is darkness everywhere and I do not quite know what to tell you or how to say it. Our beloved leader Bapu as we called him the father of the nation is no more. Perhaps I am wrong to say that; nevertheless we will not see him again as we have seen him for these many years we will not run to him for advice or seek solace from him and that is a terrible blow not only for me but for millions and millions in this country.’ Gandhiji inspired many individuals in different countries such as Martin Luther King in the USA a civil rights activist who fought for the cause of the blacks and Nelson Mandela in South Africa who fought against apartheid. His autobiography My Experiments with Truth is one of most candid works of its genre highlighting both plus and minus points of the author. Over the years Gandhiji wrote a large number of articles in his own newspaper the Harijan which reflected his philosophy and thinking on various issues. Numerous biographies of Gandhiji have been published and continue to be published some of which have stirred up controversies. Printed Pages: 112. Hay House India paperback‎

He introduced many new programmes and policies including the five-year plan which still continues that focused on government investments in various sectors such as industry and agriculture. Jawaharlal Nehru was greatly admired not only in India but also in other parts of the world for his statesmanship which was tempered with idealism. His birthday 14 November is celebrated as Children`s Day as he was extremely fond of children. Nehru wrote several books including The Discovery of India Glimpses of World History and Towards Freedom. Printed Pages: 112. Hay House India paperback‎

‎Hay House India‎

‎Quotes of Osho Series: The Wisdom Tree‎

‎Hay House India 2010. Softcover. New. Rajneesh as he was known before he attained enlightenment was born in Kushwada Madhya Pradesh on December 11 1931. From his early childhood he displayed a rebellious and questioning nature and insisted on raising doubts about all accepted beliefs and traditions. For him every truth had to be his own. He completed his post graduation in philosophy and for many years taught philosophy at the University of Jabalpur. He also traveled extensively all over India debating on religious beliefs of every shade and hue. The debates usually took the form of challenges thrown by him which orthodox religious leaders attempted to answer. He met people from all walks of life and he read practically everything that he could lay his hands on. Osho was essentially an iconoclast who opposed all generally accepted beliefs and traditions. But this opposition was based on a deep study of all religions and beliefs. In fact the extent and depth of his knowledge and understanding of practically every known religion of the world is truly mind boggling. His discourses cover every aspect of human consciousness and spirituality and express his thoughts in clear everyday terms. The fact that eighteen years after his death his speeches both in recordings and in print are still sought more avidly bears testimony to the fact that no matter what his detractors might say Osho remains one of the greatest spiritual leader of our times . . . This is a compilation of 101 of his most famous quotes. Printed Pages: 112. Hay House India paperback‎

‎Quotes of Mother Teresa Series: The Wisdom Tree‎

‎Hay House India 2010. Softcover. New. This is a compilation of 101 quotes by Mother Teresa who won the Nobel Peace Price in 1979 and India’s highest civilian honour the Bharat Ratna in 1980 for her humanitarian work. Love is a fruit in season at all times and within reach of every hand Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion because if a mother can kill her own child what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me There is nothing between. The poverty of being unwanted unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty. Printed Pages: 112. Hay House India paperback‎
