The author accepted a wager to travel in Canada and the United States living solely off the proceeds of his amateur theatrical troupe. His travels in 1859-60 included Toronto Ottawa Belleville Hamilton Peterborough Montreal New York Boston and Baltimore and he gives us a detailed sometimes humorous but seldom very complimentary view of the people places and customs of the time. Originally published in 1861. Small soft crease at bottom corner of last three page leaves minor very small bump at top fo front hinge small shallw dent on rear board. Fu professore di geografia della Società Cosmografica di Norimberga e membro dell'Accademia di Gottinga. Morì a Napoli nel 1814. Buono stato con contorni acquerellati dell'epoca. Beautiful map depicting the Gulf of Mexico with Florida, Mexico and Central America, adorned with a beautiful cartouche in a floreal frame. Venetian geographer of Padua, Rizzi-Zannoni studied astronomy and was appointed as naval hydrographer during his stay in France. He was professor of geography of the Nuremberg Cosmographic Society and member of the Academy of Göttingen. He died in Naples in 1814. Good condition with watercolors of the time.

In their efforts to assert dominion over vast reaches of the now U.S. Southwest in the seventeenth century the Spanish built a series of far-flung missions and presidios at strategic locations. One of the most important of these was San Juan Bautista del R�o Grande located at the present-day site of Guerrero in Coahuila Mexico. Despite its significance as the main entry point into Spanish Texas during the colonial period San Juan Bautista was generally forgotten until the first publication of this book in 1968. Weddle's narrative is a fascinating chronicle of the many religious military colonial and commerical expeditions that passed through San Juan and a valuable addition to knowledge of the Spanish borderlands. T.E.G. Volume 2 has light wear to corners of boards and top/bottom of spine some light areas of soiling scuffing and color loss to boards but no water damage like volume 1.
