These maps were the best for nearly 150 years and were used by Blaeu and other carthographers. The Danish King Chr. IV urged him to proceed with his mapping of Denmark which he did for some years making maps of Jutland and a general map of Denmark in order to make a Nordic atlas but only these 37 maps were published. Because the quality of the maps was of such a high quality compared with the surveying of the day the Younger Blaeu used these maps made re-engravings of them and printed the whole series in his "Atlas Maior" 1662.

Coloured copies are very scarce the offered item is only coloured in outline. 40 23 1 blank pp. plus maps and plate of scales.A surprisingly rare pocket atlas illustrating the theatre of the "tegenwoordigen" present war probably meaning the War of the Austrian Succession 1740-1748 but possibly the Seven Years' War 1756-1763. The title-page notes that it is suited for officers travellers and lovers of geography to carry in a pocket. The text in Dutch gives a geographic description only of "Duytsland" Germany including Austria Bohemia and a few other areas whereas the maps also cover the Low Countries the English Channel northwest France and to the east as far as Warsaw Krakow and Belgrade. The 23 detail maps were designed so that they could be assembled with the key map to make a single wall map whose cartographic image would measure 53 x 90 cm.With a contemporary owner's bookplate embossed stamp and library labels. With the text leaves somewhat browned not affecting the maps or the plate with scales and the first 2 leaves slightly worn but generally in good condition. Chicago.: George Cram. 1907. Atlas 15 x 12 inches 160 pages featuring brightly colored folded map of Kansas opening to 32" x 51 1/2" 3'8" x 4'3 1/2". Maps at beginning of Atlas include single page North Polar Regions and double page Map of the World and Map of North America. It should be noted that the all the double page maps are not congruent; many impose a white margin on the binding edge of each map creating an offensive divide between the two portions. This unfortunate practice is carried through many of the double page United States Maps. The list of maps that follows indicate state or city maps that are either single page or tipped-in avoiding the egregious gap between the two segments: Maine Connecticut Virginia Maryland & Delaware West Virginia South Carolina Florida Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Tennessee Kentucky North Dakota South Dakota Nebraska Kansas Colorado Arkansas Nevada Oklahoma Arizona New Mexico California Montana Utah Oregon Wyoming Idaho Washington Chicago St. Louis Minneapolis Souix City Council Bluffs St. Paul Omaha. Text at rear is a potpourri: focus on Departments of Government Presidents Photographic Scenes from Around the World and three maps of Kansas focusing on Manufacture Farming and Livestock in each of the state's counties. A seven page Index of Kansas concludes the Atlas which is in very good clean condition and is distinguished by the remarkable folded map attached to rear cover. . George Cram. unknown

151 ll. ll. 1 & 145-151 blank.Extraordinary manuscript atlas and register of land ownership for the "Gecombineerde Prins Willem Polder" combined Prince William polder in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen the parts of Flanders situated in the province of Zeeland in the Dutch Republic north and west of the town of Oostburg in the southwest corner of the Netherlands. It documents the individual plots of land within the polder and records the owners who acquired each plot when the polder was first laid out in 1650 and 1651 and the owners in 1723. Atlases of this type were drawn up by land-owning corporations or polder authorities for the proper administration of land taxes and provide one of the most complete and accurate records of land ownership. They generally remained in the archives of the institutions until destroyed or turned over to the governmental archives so that they rarely come on the market. The present atlas of the Generale Prins Willempolder in Zeeland is therefore an extremely rare primary source for the social economic and topographic history of the region the history of the Dutch battle against the sea and the genealogy of the land owners. It was compiled by Gerrit van Gersom then dijkgraaf the official charged with oversite of a polder and its dikes for the Prins Willempolder. Most of the first map is detached and several have tears creases or tattered edges sometimes crudely repaired but most remain in good or very good condition. The paperboard core of the front board is lost leaving the limp sheepskin and the binding is soiled and tattered with some tears chips and broken sewing supports. An essential primary source for the history topography and genealogy of the Prins Willempolder in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in the southwest corner of the Netherlands near the coast and the Belgian border. unknown
