This American writer ran off at age 16 to join the circus; he authored stories about the circus jungle life and crime; in 1920 he co-authored Louisa Frederici Cody's "Memories of Buffalo Bill"; in the 1930s he ghostwrote some J. Edgar Hoover articles. TMS 1p 8�" X 11" Idaho Springs CO n.d. dated 1923 January 9 in pencil in another hand. Very good. Minor age toning. First page of a short story titled "A Box of White Powder" the actual double-spaced working draft with a number of words crossed out in pencil. Inscribed big and bold in his usual bright green ink near the top "To / Prof. Albert Johannsen / with the best / regards of / Courtney Ryley Cooper." Johannsen wrote the highly-regarded "The House of Beadle and Adams and Its Dime and Nickel Novels" and had an extensive autograph collection. Whether "A Box of White Powder" was ever published we have not been able to ascertain. Unusual in this form. Comes with Johannsen's partly-printed "Collection of Albert Johannsen" folder. unknown
