This unrecorded edition shows numerous minor differences to the text and does not include the charts that were issued with the published version. This was presumably privately printed for the author. Signed by Emmett Dalton beneath his frontispiece portrait. In near fine condition. The Dalton brothers led one of the last gangs of horseback outlaws. Ironically three of them - Bob Grant and Emmett - started their careers as deputy marshals. They soon decided that more money could be made from horse rustling and in 1888 they organized a band that carried on a thriving trade. When they came under suspicion toward the end of 1890 the brothers went to California where on February 6 1891 at the small station of Aila they held up a Los Angeles-bound passenger train. The robbery failed when the baggage clerk excaped and the Daltons were unable to break into the safe. Grat was captured and sentenced to twenty years in prison but escaped from the train carrying him to Folsom. The gang resumed operations in Oklahoma where during the next two years they robbed three trains before turning to the more lucrative trade of bank robbery. Modeling their plans on the James brothers the Daltons struck the two banks at Coffeyville Kansas on October 5 1892 hoping as Bob said "to beat anything Jesse James ever did - rob two banks at once in broad daylight." However the identical fate that befell the James gang at Northfield Minnesota awaited the Daltons. Confronted with a large crowd of armed townsfolk the gang attempted to shoot its way to safety; in the battle Bob Gat and two other gang members were killed and Emmett was severely wounded and captured. This distinguished Civil War surgeon was an influential physiologist and authored a number of important works in the field "A Treatise on Human Physiology" 1861 "The Experimental Method of Medicine" 1882 "Topographical Anatomy of the Brain" 1885 others -- but is often remembered as the first full-time physiology professor in the U.S.; his discoveries about the brain earned him the nickname "America's first experimental neurophysiologist"; among various high-level academic appoints in 1884 he was named president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Scarce "Yours truly / JC Dalton" large and bold in thick black ink on a 3 3/4" X 1�" slip n.p. n.y. Very good. Mild dampstaining affects some letters "truly" "JC D" but not offensively; clearly clipped from a letter as a number of words in his hand "report on deeds / for the College profs / The Quarterly" visible on verso beneath light mounting traces. Known as the "Father of the House of Representatives" for his lengthy 13 terms service this Pennsylvania representative served from 1887 to 1913. Partly-printed ADS 1p 3�" X 8�" n.p. Washington DC n.d. 1895 September 25 inkstamped. Near fine. Partly-printed Bureau of Pensions form for Congressional use. Dalzell pens in Loveina M. Kunkle of Pittsburgh as the claimant for soldier Jacob L. Kunkle of Company "I" 11th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers and requests to be advised on "present status claim" signing boldly. A private named Jacob L. Kunkle 1843-63 is known to have enrolled at Kittanning Pennsylvania in 1862 and died of "Congestion of the Brain" in Virginia in 1862; Loveina was obviously next of kin though her relationship is unclear and presumably petitioned her congressman to find out if she could receive any pension because of this relationship. It's not believed Jacob Kunkle was married so perhaps she was a sister. unknown

On joint � cet exemplaire une importante documentation pour partie in�dite : A Un ensemble de documents permettant d'identifier tr�s pr�cis�ment les auteurs des exemples oraux dits "t�moins" dont les noms sont crypt�s dans l'ouvrage. Outre les exemples litt�raires ou tir�s de la presse les auteurs ont en effet scrupuleusement not� les phrases que pronon�aient les personnes de leur entourage familial professionnel relationnel etc. corpus soigneusement anonymis� gr�ce � un simple code alphab�tique pour la publication. Il est amusant de noter que les deux hommes utilisaient ces cryptogrammes quand il faisaient r�f�rence � certaines de leurs connaissances dans leur correspondance priv�e. L'outil largeent in�dit qui nous est propos� est d'autant plus int�ressant que gravitaient dans l'entourage des deux hommes surtout semble-t-il dans celui de Pichon un nombre important de personnes du monde des sciences particuli�rement celles de l'esprit et des lettres dont le nom nous est toujours familier aujourd'hui et que l'on peut retrouver gr�ce � ces "cl�s" : citons par exemple Louis Aragon qui fut l'�tudiant de Pichon au d�but des ann�es 20 et que Pichon continua de fr�quenter par la suite ou Charles Maurras le "ma�tre" de Pichon du c�t� des lettres ou Jacques Lacan on trouve m�me trace du p�re de Lacan Alfred Ren� Laforgue Parcheminey Marie Bonaparte et tant d'autres jusqu'� Fran�oise Dolto alors Fran�oise Marette autre �tudiante de Pichon du c�t� des sciences de l'esprit. Il est souvent tr�s amusant de chercher les phrases orales donc et coup�es de tout contexte de ces personnalit�s et de voir les "pathologies grammaticales" que celles-ci illustrent tant le vocabulaire m�me de l'Essai de Grammaire est complexe.
