Joseph Wright
London: Tate Gallery Publishing. Near Fine with No dust jacket as issued. 1998. First Printing. Soft Cover. 185437284X . Publisher's glossy pictorial wraps. Illustrated with 50 color and 13 B&W illustrations. "Joseph Wright painted some of the most powerful works of 18th-century British art: blacksmith hammering a glowing bar of iron dramatic demonstrations on scientific apparatus erupting volcanoes gloomy prisons a fashionably dressed gentleman reclining full-length in a forest. Stephen Daniels addresses this interesting diversity by looking closely at the inextricable links between Wright's heart and the different worlds of the Enlightenment movement that so fascinated and inspired him. Wright's unique connection with the innovations of his age together with his interest in new techniques and his use of an unusually wide range of pictorial and written sources single him out as one of the most original and enterprising artists of his time.". One pencilled note on half-title otherwise as new; unmarked tight square clean and bright. NEAR FINE. . British Artists Series. Small 4to 9" - 11" tall. 80 pp . Tate Gallery Publishing paperback
