In Ostherlin kollabierte die Verwaltung, die ehemalige Hauptstadt der DDR verwandelte sich in eine "Temporäre Autonome Zone". Plötzlich gab es all diese Räume zu entdecken: ob eine Panzerkammer im staubigen Niemandsland des ehemaligen Todesstreifens oder Bunkeranlagen aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg, ob eine stillgelegte Seifenfabrik an der Spree oder ein Umspannwerk gegenüber dem ehemaligen Reichsluftfahrtministerium - an all den Orten, die die jüngere Geschichte ausgemustert hatte, wurde plötzlich zu einer Musik getanzt, die nahezu im Wochentakt komplett neu erfunden wurde. Natürlich, Techno ist - vereinfacht ausgedrückt - Mitte der 80er-Jahre in Detroit entstanden. Doch eine Heimat fanden die neuen elektronischen Klänge dort nicht. Es entwickelte sich keine Clubszene um die Musik, die so gezwungenermaßen zum Exportgut der krisengeschüttelten Autostadt wurde. Dass ein Großteil der Detroiter Produzenten und DJs ausgerechnet in Berlin eine zweite Heimat gefunden haben und sich ein sym-biotisches Verhältnis zwischen diesen beiden desolaten Städten entwickelte - auch das ist neben dem Einsatz und dem Enthusiasmus einiger Musikbegeisterter zu einem großen Teil glücklicher Fügung zu verdanken. Die meisten der dort heimischen Völker sind erst nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg aus der Kolonialherrschaft der Europäer entlassen worden, und die Frage, wie sie nun mit ihrer Selbständigkeit fertig werden, ist politisch und wirtschaftlich ebenso wie kulturell von großem Interesse. Dabei ist es wichtig zu wissen, von welchen Voraussetzungen die sehr verschiedenartigen Völker, Stämme und anderen Gemeinschaften ausgehen; dafür bietet dieser Band eine anschauliche Grundlage. Afrika südlich der Sahara ist ein unermeßliches Land mit sehr unterschiedlichen Landschaftsräumen. Es gibt auch südlich der Sahara Wüsten und Trockensteppen, aber auch tropische Regenwälder, endlose Savannen, schroffe unwegsame Bergländer, schneebedeckte Vulkangipfel, gewaltige Ströme und reizvolle Binnenseen. Nicht umsonst nennt man den Erdteil südlich der Sahara auch "Schwarzafrika". Die Mehrzahl seiner Bewohner sind Neger, neben ihnen leben Restgruppen von Pygmäen und Buschmännern. Der Tod überraschte ihn mitten in den Vorbereitungen zu einem Buch, das er lange geplant und für das er im Jahr vor seinem Tod intensive Vorarbeiten begonnen hatte. Die Absicht, die seine Arbeit für dieses vorantrieb, lag in dem Wunsch, seine Untersuchungen zu den Strukturen der Lebenswelt zusammenzufassen und die Ergebnisse - bislang noch in unterschiedlichen Publikationen verstreut - als zusammenhängende Argumentation vorzulegen. Dieses Buch also, die Strukturen der Lebenswelt, wurde unter ungewöhnlichen Umständen geschrieben. Die Pläne, die Schütz zum Zeitpunkt seines Todes entworfen hatte, waren bereits soweit gereift, daß sie die Hauptlinie des Arguments zeigten und sowohl detaillierte Hinweise auf die Veröffentlichungen und deren Einbeziehung in das Buch einschlossen, als auch Entwürfe und aide-mémoires zu Analysen, die noch zu leisten blieben. Bei den Diskussionen, die seine Witwe und ich über dieses Material führten, waren wir beide von dem Wert und der Nützlichkeit überzeugt, die seine Publikation für die Schütz-Schüler bringen würde, ebenso wie für alle jene, denen an einer exakten Rekonstruktion und angemessenen Interpretation des philosophischen und soziologischen Werkes von Schütz lag. Wir waren uns jedoch klar darüber, daß eine derartige posthume Veröffentlichung auch nicht annähernd die Absichten erreichen konnte, die Schütz bei seiner eigenen Konzeption des Buches geleitet hatten. Sehr guter Zustand. - Vorwort: Der Zusammenbruch der UdSSR zu Beginn der 1990er hat zu einer strategischen und politischen Entwicklung geführt, wie sie für Zentralasien gänzlich neu war. Bemerkenswert daran waren die innenpolitischen Entwicklungen, die mit zahlreichen politischen Verwerfungen einhergingen, aber auch die Versuche der unterschiedlichsten staatlichen und nicht-staatlichen player auf die Entwicklung in den neuen Staaten Einfluss zu nehmen. Dass hier neben internationalen und nationalen Kapitalgesellschaften auch Religionsgemeinschaften eine Rolle spielten, ist zunächst kaum beachtet worden. Neben den christlichen Missionsorganisationen verschiedenster Ausrichtung waren es auch muslimische Stiftungen. Die wachsende Bedeutung von islamischen Stiftungen ist von westlichen Beobachtern in den vergangenen Jahren verstärkt zur Kenntnis genommen worden. Dabei haben die Stiftungen vor allem aus der Golfregion besondere Aufmerksamkeit gefunden. Das liegt einerseits an den beträchtlichen Kapitalmitteln, über die dieses Organisationen verfügen und andererseits an den oft nicht ganz deutlich erkennbaren Programmen und Zielen, die die Stiftungen verfolgen. Vor allem nach den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2001 sind einige islamische Stiftungen in den Verdacht geraten, mit den ihnen zur Verfügung stehenden finanziellen Mitteln terroristische Aktivitäten zu unterstützen. Diese Verdächtigungen haben dazu geführt, dass die Stiftungen sich noch stärker zurückhalten, Einblick in ihre Tätigkeiten zu geben. Es lag also nahe, um genauere und verlässliche Kenntnisse über die islamischen Stiftungen zu erhalten ihre Aktivitäten zu untersuchen und weniger ihre Selbstdarstellungen zu analysieren. In der Darstellung von Dina Wilkowsky geschieht dies am Beispiel der Republik Kasachstan auf der Grundlage einer überragenden Kenntnis des Landes und der in ihm agierenden politischen Kräfte. Dank der sprachlichen Kompetenz der Autorin gelingt ihr auch der Zugang zu den relevanten arabischen Quellen. Sie kann daher sowohl die Formen der Einflussnahme der Stiftungen auf den islamischen Teil der kasachstanischen Gesellschaft darstellen, als auch die Motivationen der Stiftungen für ihr Engagement in Zentralasien herausarbeiten. Es gibt vor allem zwei Beweggründe, aus denen die islamischen Stiftungen vor allem aus der Golfregion, aber auch aus anderen arabischen Ländern sich in Kasachstan etabliert haben; beide Gründe hängen mit einander zusammen: Zunächst kamen die Stiftungen nach Zentralasien, weil ihnen bewusst war, dass die muslimische Bevölkerung im Verlauf der langen sowjetischen Herrschaft viel von ihrer muslimischen Identität und der Kenntnis der religiösen Praxis verloren hatten. Auch wenn die anti-religiöse Propaganda der Frühzeit der sowjetischen Herrschaft nach dem 2. Weltkrieg mehr oder weniger aufgegeben worden war und die Regierung Schon auf Grund der Zusammenarbeit mit islamischen Ländern dem Islam gegenüber zurückhaltender auftrat, konnte von einer Förderung doch nicht die Rede sein. Vor allem aber war der Kontakt zu den wichtigen Zentren islamischer Gelehrsamkeit erschwert, so dass die muslimischen Gelehrten in Zentralasien kaum die Möglichkeit hatten, die dogmatischen und theologischen Entwicklungen in den Kernländern des Islams kennen zu lernen. Die islamischen Stiftungen begannen also, durch Stipendien an arabische Universitäten Kader von jungen Muslimen aus Zentralasien zu entwickeln, die von ihrer religiösen Kompetenz her in der Klage waren, die islamische Bevölkerung ihrer Heimat mit neuen Entwicklungen in der islamischen Welt vertraut zu machen. Das traf nicht in allen Fällen auf Zustimmung durch die Regierungen. Des Weiteren finanzierten die Stiftungen in einigen zen- tralasiatischen Staaten islamische Zentren, die die Bevölkerung mit einer orthodoxen Form des Islams vertraut machen sollten. Auch hier kam es zu Spannungen mit den Regierungen. Der zweite Grund für die Aktivitäten war, dass die Stiftungen es als ihre Pflicht ansahen, die Muslime Zentralasiens gegen den Einfluss der christlichen Missionare zu wappnen, die nicht nur unter der religionslosen russischen Bevölkerung Einfluss zu gewinnen suchten, sondern sich auch an die muslimische Bevölkerung wandten. Es lag den Stiftungen daran, eine starke Resistenz gegen diese Versuche aufzubauen. Die vorliegende Untersuchung, die durch die VolkswagenStif-tung gefördert worden ist, bietet eine Vielzahl von Informationen, die in dieser Form bisher einer westlichen Leserschaft nicht zugänglich waren. Sie gibt einen paradigmatischen Einblick in die Aktivitäten islamischer Stiftungen in Zentralasien und die Reaktionen der politischen Eliten auf diese Bemühungen. Der Untersuchung ist angesichts der politischen und strategischen Bedeutung Zentralasiens im Allgemeinen und Kasachstans im Besonderen eine weite Aufmerksamkeit zu wünschen.
