Tylor was Fellow of the Royal Society the founder of cultural anthropology and the first Professor of Anthropology at Oxford. This copy of "Paradoxes" was presented to Oxford University by his wife upon his death in 1917 with a commemorative bookplate: "From the Library of Sir Edward Burnett Tylor KNT. D.C.L. F.R.S. The first Reader and Professor of Anthropology in the University of Oxford. Presented to the Radcliffe Trustees by Dame Anna Rebecca Tylor June 1917." Blue cloth with gilt spine titles gray endpapers. Spine frayed at the crown and heel some splitting of the cloth at the rear outer hinge moderate wear at the tips. Two stamps of Radcliffe Library University Museum Oxford and BODL-LIBR. DUPLICATE SOLD BY AUTHORITY on preliminaries no other markings. Internally very good text clean and bright. . Signed. 1st.
