Solidarietà critica intende coniugare la ricerca sociologica, tanto teorica quanto empirica, con il contributo fornito dalla teoria critica all'analisi delle più recenti trasformazioni del legame sociale. Il volume mostra come le possibilità di riproduzione della solidarietà all'interno delle nostre società passino anche attraverso la costruzione di nuove forme di socialità. Si tratta di un complesso di relazioni intersoggettive che permette di dare svolgimento a prospettive di autorealizzazione, all'attribuzione di significato a spazi e a luoghi, all'elaborazione di una critica sociale riflessiva, a un'innovativa interpretazione della sfera politica a partire dalla dimensione sociale, ma anche a peculiari traiettorie utopiche. La solidarietà può essere interpretata come una risposta a paradossali dinamiche di riproduzione dell'autonomia individuale alimentate dal neoliberalismo. I legami solidali studiati contribuiscono a mostrare il doppio volto di solidarietà e critica: la solidarietà vissuta e pensata come dimensione critica e la critica sviluppata mediante prospettive di riconfigurazione del legame sociale.
