Die Selbstverwaltung legitimiert sich durch Wahlen und wird durch diese gesteuert. Obwohl es sich bei den Sozialversicherungswahlen um eines der ältesten sozialpolitischen Wahlsysteme handelt, sind im Bereich der wissenschaftlichen Sozialpolitik bislang nur wenige Ansätze zu einer methodischen Analyse unternommen worden.
