‎Sm. 8vo., Thirty-Eighth Thousand, with a frontispiece and plates; some light age-soiling, neat contemporary inscription on frontispiece recto; original red cloth, upper board with blind frame border enclosing gilt vignette, gilt back, neatly recased with new endpapers to style, a very good, bright, firm copy. With 2pp publisher's catalogue at end. Marsh's collection of topical homilies had its inception in 1853, when she went among the large contingent of railway navvies assembled in Beckenham and environs to rebuild the Crystal Place at Sydenham following the Great Exhibition of 1851. A number of the later pieces refer to the Crimean War and other contemporary events. Chalmers was sometime Rector of Beckenham. SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.‎

A later, inferior, edition appeared in 1857. The lithograph shows the sovereign making his escape attended by the five 'Pendrels' [sic] and Yates.
