I chose the coyote because I was captured by the angle showcasing its long lanky legs. The coyote is set against a hand-dyed background made to resemble gravel and the outline of a river in the area where Robinson attended college. Hart wrote poetry and plays and was an accomplished jazz pianist and drummer. In the late 1950s Hart Jack Kerouac Philip Lamantia and David Amram gave jazz poetry readings in New York. From 1959-61 Hart wrote theatre and book reviews for the Village Voice. He also spent many years in San Francisco and was part of the poetry scene there. <br /><br />The six books are: <br /><br />--Fountain Square. New York: Pennyeach Press 1954. This copy being number 374 of 2000 printed. Signed with a dedication to Lord Addington possibly John Hubbard 3rd Baron Addington OR Raymond Hubbard 4th Baron Addington by the author on the front pastedown. One quarter vellum under sage green paper boards. Briggs Books bookplate on front pastedown of both volumes. Volume two showing two pin impressions on spine otherwise both volumes fine. Bound promotional pamphlet from John Nash included in the set also fine save for pencilled price and edition information. Volume I is poetry and Volume II is primarily plates. The matching sage green slipcase did its job well but is the worse for wear about fair showing scotch tape repairs at foot and crown of case peeling on spine and a split at top edge of case. Milton Smith Ray born 1881 in San Francisco is best remembered for his role as an engineer and local industrialist whose family company the Ray Oil Burner Company played a major role in the evolution of steamship engines through their oil burner/piston pump. The company had enormous success and Ray lived comfortably until his death in a mansion built by Henry Clay Smith at 2901 Broadway in San Francisco. The house sits on a hill overlooking the San Francisco Bay on a lot Ray purchased in 1925 from future president and at the time his fellow student Herbert Hoover. His affluent life as an industrialist enabled Ray to pursue his other passions as well: history poetry oology and ornithology. Milton S. Ray was an avid and incredibly dedicated ornithologist who went on yearly field trips around the world and all over California collecting eggs nests and specimens and documenting his observations. He pursued this passion in a diligent manner from 1892 at age 11 until his death in 1946. When Ray passed away in 1946 his extensive egg collection was donated to the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. The Museum currently houses 2833 of his collected specimens. He published often in the field of ornithology and also had several volumes of poetry published surrounding his experiences in nature which he dedicated to his children." According to the final page of the book The Calculus of Variation was written between 1961 and 1964 and printed in Denver at Bradford Printing in 1972. Within the edition of 2000 there were 50 signed and numbered by di Prima. <br /><br />"Di Prima.was a revolutionary feminist poet who was on the front lines of the shifts in art and culture that took place in the fifties sixties and seventies" writes actress director and author Amber Tamblyn. "She fought for queer rights trans rights and womens rights long before clothing lines and hashtags began to flood political movements. 'Kids' an 8 line verse; 'Maxim' 3 stanzas of 8 lines each. Photographic image 2-1/8" x 1-1/2" of Capt Jack in upper left corner. Facsimile signature to right between the printed verses. 8-1/2" x 5-1/4" <br/><br/>"John Wallace Crawford 'Capt Jack' also known as 'The Poet Scout' was an American adventurer educator & author. 'Captain Jack' was a master storyteller about the Wild West and is known in American history as one of the most popular performers in the late 19th C. His daring ride of 350 miles in 6 days to carry dispatches to Fort Laramie for the New York Herald to tell the news of the great victory by Gen. George Crook against the village of Chief American Horse at the Battle of Slim Buttes during the Great Sioux War of 1876-1877 made him a national celebrity. Crawford was a prolific writer and published seven books of poetry wrote more than one hundred short stories and copyrighted four plays. Captain Jack’s written accounts of life on the frontier are noted for their true representation of the real dangers of harsh pioneer life. Many of Captain Jack’s books and poems are still performed and recorded as songs such as "The Death of Custer" "Rattlin' Joe's Prayer" which became the basis reset as narrated by a soldier of the song "Deck of Cards" where a miner preaches a sermon from playing cards and "California Joe and the Girl Trapper". His poem "Only a Miner Killed" has been cited as the basis for Bob Dylan's song "Only a Hobo". Not found on OCLC. Rare thus. unknown books
