Since the early 1960s, Burhan Dogancay examines the social, cultural and political transformation of modern and contemporary urban culture through the use of walls. As an urban traveller, he has been tracking walls in various cities across the world for almost half a century. With the guise of an anthropologist, Dogancay examines these surfaces that are open to all manners of contemporary interventions ranging from posters to slogans, and messages with sexual content to newspaper clippings. Dogancay's works with different techniques and styles, are positioned in both a historical and contemporary ground through their incorporation of the icons of popular culture and political symbols. Fifty Years of Urban Walls: A Burhan Dogancay Retrospective stands as an anthology for Dogancay's last 50 years of work. With works that range from small sized pieces to big canvases, and installations that run beyond the walls, to various materials and pursuits, this exhibition unrolls the background to Dogancay's ways of working. The exhibition gathers together 14 distinct series and periods of time with works coming from different collections all over the world. The accompanying catalogue presents images of works along with explanatory texts, which provide different perspectives to his ouevre while documents and photographs on Dogancay's life alludes to his urban traveller identity.

While documenting the past evolution of the Istanbul Biennial with a view to exploring its future development and possibilities, "Time Present, Time Past" will also include a number of iconic works by both Turkish and international artists that have partaken in the previous Istanbul Biennials. These works will be accompanied by plasma screen documentation of the works from past Biennials shown in situ. The works in the exhibition will be brought from Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Scotland, Spain, Sweden and U.S.A. Co-curated by ¿stanbul Modern Director David Elliott and ¿stanbul Modern Chief Curator Rosa Martínez, the exhibition will open concurrently with the 10th Istanbul Biennial, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The exhibition is designed not only to reveal the ways in which the rapid changes that have taken place in the art world over the past years have been reflected in the Istanbul art scene, but also to show how a generation of young Turkish artists has become integrated within a broader international framework. Twenty years have passed since the Istanbul Biennial first started in 1987. In the early Biennials, works of art selected from across the world were displayed in various parts of the city, including historic areas, museums and cultural sites. Subsequent biennials maintained this approach and extended to "non-art" areas and public spaces. In this process, a wide spectrum of the best in Turkish and global contemporary art was introduced to Turkey and the rest of the world. In putting together "Time Present, Time Past," ¿stanbul Modern asked the eight former Artistic Directors of the Biennial (Beral Madra, Vas¿f Kortun, René Block, Rosa Martínez, Paolo Colombo, Yuko Hasegawa, Dan Cameron, Charles Esche)¿ all well-known international curators in their own right - to select what they felt were the most inspiring and iconic works from the biennials they had organized. Originating from the U.S.A., Germany, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Japan, and Turkey, these curators have assembled a kaleidoscopic vision of the work of many key artists who have left their mark on contemporary culture and art. The exhibition will reflect the transformation of the art scene in Istanbul and the role of the past Biennials within this change, with each curator writing an article for the exhibition catalogue about their experiences of the city, the Biennial they curated and their perspectives on the future. To accompany the exhibition, an extensive illustrated catalogue that examines the evolution of the Biennial over the past twenty years, and gives the views and perspectives of its Artistic Directors from the past to present, will be published. "The Future of Biennials": An International Symposium. In connection with the Opening of the 10th Istanbul Biennial on 6th September and in co-ordination with them, ¿stanbul Modern will organize an international symposium on the 7th and 8th of September 2007. The symposium will be held at the Mimar Sinan University Auditorium in collaboration with AICA Turkey. Sponsored by Garanti Bank, the symposium will be in English with simultaneous translation into Turkish. The symposium will include the previous artistic directors of the past Biennials, as well as Hou Hanru, the artistic director of the 10th Istanbul Biennial, and some of the artists participating in the exhibition. The past, present and future of the Biennials in general and Istanbul Biennial in particular will be discussed from various aspects and a Q and A session will be held for the audience. Prep. by Begüm Akkoyunlu Ersöz et al. Giorgio de Chirico is one of the most extraordinary figures of the 20thcentury, a period marked by consecutive avant-garde movements. During this rich period that brought to fore different forms and modes of expression rather than themes in painting, de Chirico, as distinct from his contemporaries, created a unique metaphysical universe in which he carried the fresh themes he developed and carried to the center of his painting. Following the first metaphysical works he produced between 1910 and 1918, which also served as a source of inspiration for the Surrealists, he gravitated towards a different search with the changing dynamics of the post-World War I period. He was interested in ancient Greek and Roman art and re-interpreted the works of Old masters. He revisited metaphysical painting when he turned 80. He completed his artistic career with the new themes he developed in this area and the canvases he painted with lighter colours compared to his early period. The exhibition catalogue includes writings by the artist and encompassing essays focusing on de Chirico's artistic career and the Metaphysical Art, which he invented, as well as exemplifying his various periods ranging from his earliest works to his last ones.

She gave ceramics lessons to children with developmental disabilities (i.e. children with autism) at Içgörü Child and Youth Psychology Consultation and Health Center in between 2001-2004. She has been working as a lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering & Architecture, Department of Architecture at Istanbul Kültür University since 1999. She also gives lessons in the ceramics studio that she established within this university since 2004. She continues to work on art in her own studio in Sultanahmet and Istanbul.".

The exhibition "Fenerler" (Lighthouses), which is composed of the artwork by caricaturist Haslet Soyöz, is currently on display at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum in Istanbul. Soyöz, who celebrates his 40th year as an artist, is exhibiting 30 of his oil paintings on canvas until May 15. The paintings featured at the exhibition are the depictions of lighthouses around Turkey. The artist previously worked with the museum for his exhibitions "Cennetin Gemileri" (Ships of Heaven) in 2003, "Hava, Kara Deniz Tasitlari" (Air, Land and Sea Vehicles) in 2007 and "Delkos'tan Karaburun's" (From Delkos to Karaburun) in 2013. "Lighthouses" is the fourth solo exhibition of Soyöz at the same museum. Soyöz focuses on lighthouses as the true friends, a light of hope and an alarm bell, for seafaring man.
