(vers 1790) petit in-12, cartonnage papier rose, roulette torsadée argent d'encadrement sur chaque face, dans la partie centrale incisée de la première, un portrait dessiné dans un médaillon ovale (6,5 x 5) sous verre avec un listel de papier palladium “à la Glomy” en bordure de ce dernier, au centre de la seconde, un petit calendrier perpétuel contrecollé dans les limites d'un cartouche de filets argent avec un gland dans les angles, un logement pour un crayon le long d'un bord, étui cartonné de papier marbré, deux compartiments encadrés d'une roulette de spires sur chaque face, petit phylactère doré Souvenir dans l'un d'eux (rel. de l'époque).‎

‎Émouvant objet de charme, étui de carnet de bal réutilisé en petit cadre, avec un dessin original.Entre la fin du XVIIIe siècle et le début du XIXe, la vogue de charmants petits portraits se répandit jusqu'à la vulgarisation de la lithographie. Ils consistaient en un profil finement gravé qui se détachait sur fond noir et étaient obtenus par le procédé du physionotrace mis au point en 1783 par son inventeur Gilles-Louis Chrétien (1754-1811). Son appareil se composait d'un chevalet soutenant, d'une part, une planchette verticale, sur laquelle était fixée une feuille de papier, et, d'autre part, un cadre articulé formé de deux parallélogrammes. En haut de ce dernier, se trouvait un œilleton et, en bas, un crayon, dont la pointe se déplaçait sur le papier selon les mouvements du viseur par lequel l'opérateur suivait le contour du visage, placé de profil et bloqué par un appui-tête, de la personne qui souhaitait se faire portraiturer. Était ainsi obtenu un dessin au trait en grandeur naturelle qui était ensuite réduit à l'aide d'un pantographe puis reporté sur cuivre. Ce dernier fonctionnait comme un négatif pour obtenir des petites estampes de "ressemblance frappante", ce qui fait du physionotrace un précurseur de la photographie.Le dessin dans le médaillon est donc la réduction d'un portrait ad vivum plus grand. Il est traité à la mine de plomb et au lavis d'encre de Chine avec une touche d'aquarelle (dans la redingote).Avant de se séparer de lui, Chrétien travailla avec le dessinateur Quenedey puis s'associa avec le miniaturiste Fouquet, mais savoir qui fit ce dessin semble impossible.D'une parfaite fraîcheur.J.
