Schauspielhaus in Berlin tätig, danach vorübergehend am Hoftheater von Schwerin. 1872 wurde er von Heinrich Laube an das Wiener Stadttheater engagiert, blieb dort bis 1876 und spielte bis 1879 am Stadttheater in Hamburg. Er kehrte an das Wiener Stadttheater zurück, trat dort bis 1881 auf und gab zahlreiche Gastspiele in Deutschland, Österreich und Rußland, bis er 1893 aus gesundheitlichen Gründen seinen Abschied von der Bühne nahm. F. war Mitbegründer und 1882-93 Sozietär des Deutschen Theaters in Berlin. Zu seinen Hauptrollen gehörten Clavigo, Hamlet, Richard III. und Mephisto.‎
