Seit 1948 wirkte sie bei den Salzburger Festspielen mit und leitete von 1957-60 eine Opernklasse an der Wiener Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst; 1964 erhielt sie den Professorentitel und wurde 1970 Ehrenmitglied der Wiener Staatsoper. Als Oratorien- und Liedersängerin bekannt, trat sie vor allem durch ihre Interpretation der Werke von Verdi und Richard Strauss hervor.

Briefkopf. - Hoffmann debütierte 1826 als Tenor an der Wiener Hofoper und kam 1828 nach Aachen, 1829 nach Berlin. 1835 ging er nach St. Petersburg, führte erstmals Regie und wechselte 1838 nach Riga, dessen Opernhaus er seit 1839 als Direktor leitete. 1846-52 Direktor des Landestheaters in Prag, 1852-55 des Stadttheaters von Frankfurt/Main, erwarb Hoffmann 1855 das Theater in der Josefstadt in Wien und ließ das Thalia-Theater bauen.
