Eyes Lies and Illusions.Drawn from the Werner Nekes Collection
Light and shadow, reflection, colour and motion - these are the primary elements of visual art. Shadow play, tricks of perspective, anamorphoses and magic lanterns have fascinated artists and craftsmen throughout the centuries and continue to inspire and stimulate the imagination to this day. The Art of Illusion explores this world of perceptual paradox through the astonishing collection of the German experimental filmmaker Werner Nekes, and the work of contemporary artists including Christian Boltanski, Carsten Holler, Tony Oursler and Markus Raetz. The Art of Illusion illustrates a vast range of intriguing optical media and artworks from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries - manuscripts, prints and books, optical devices and experiments, early cameras, games and toys. This handsome volume incorporates optical tricks, puzzles and illusions, which are sure to make it a collector's item. It will appeal to everyone interested in the history of art, cinema, science and ideas and visual culture from the Renaissance to the present day. — Testi: Warner Marina, Mannoni Laurent . Sigmar Polke. Mu Nieltnam Netorruprup
During the 1970s Sigmar Polke travelled extensively, concentrating heavily on photography as a medium. Both in painting and printing his work often has an experimental flavour. This book is half catalogue with a list of 31 prints and half artist’s book which in the second part shows a series of 101 printed photos about dog/bear fights, men from the Far East gathering and smoking in contrast to photos of Hell’s Angels, police and rich people in the West. This chapter called Mu nieltnam netorruprup is equal to the title of print number 31 in the list of works in the first part of the book. — Testi: Jensen Jens Christian. Katz Alex
Interlocking Lives
The book is composed of five suites: Interlocking Lives; The Bullfighter; Off to Mexico; Father and Son; and Jim as a Young Man. Each suite consists of about 20 pictures and 20 pages of text. Poems and pictures are typically put in a 1 to 1 dialogue (Edges, a collaboration between Robert Creeley and Alex Katz, comes to mind) Interlocking Lives essentially offers five different readings of the same images in different sequences demonstrating how poems and pictures interact and interrupt, as do the 'interlocking lives' of their makers. — Testi: Koch Kenneth. Working Drawings and Other Visible Things on Paper Not Necessarily Meant to Be Viewed as Art.
In 1966, Bochner curated an exhibition of working drawings collected from artist friends and colleagues. This landmark show of conceptual collaboration included work by Donald Judd, Robert Smithson, Eva Hesse, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, Dan Graham, John Cage, and others. Also included were contributions from composers, mathematicians, choreographers, and engineers. The work was Xeroxed and then bound into four identical volumes that were then mounted on pedestals in the center of the gallery. This is a 1997 recreation of that event and includes 4 identical volumes of drawings by Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt, Eva Hesse, Robert Mangold, Dan Graham, John Cage, Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Jo Baer and numerous others. 4 volumes @ 250 pages each and 1 @ 34 pages with essays by Christophe Cherix, Laurent Jenny, James Meyer. Black and white reproductions. All 5 volumes in a cardboard slipcase. — Testi: Cherix Christophe, Meyer James et al. F.to: 22x29; pagg. 200; BN; rileg. brossura con scatola.
