An exquisitely etched and handcolored fashion print from the early Georgian period which followed the English Regency period the era of Jane Austen and one of elegance in fashion and society. This example of the latest mode was published in "La Belle Assemblée or Bell's Court and Fashionable Magazine addressed particularly to the Ladies" published by John Bell. Vyvyan Holland Hand-Coloured Fashion Plates 1770-1899 Batsford 1955 describes this magazine as "one of the most important magazines of its time and which contains some of the most delicate fashion-plates of all time." . A few areas of light soiling to outer margin two inch repaired tear to mid left edge over 3 inches from image area a few pinholes in each corner all well outside image area light adhesive tape along verso of upper edge barely visible from front. Very good condition. A reproductive engraving after a painting by Boucher in the Rococo style showing a group of women with a fortune teller lounging in a lush forest. The early decades of the 20th century saw a fashion for reproductive mezzotints of traditional paintings such as this one which was produced in France for the English market marked "Printed in France" at lower right corner. . unknown
