Chronology and Portraits of the Monarchs of France
Dean & Son London 1860. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine Condition/No Dust Jacket. Small volume approx. 14cm by 9cm consisting of simple title-page followed by 35 pages each with two black and white engraved portraits of French Kings from Pharamond to Napoleon III with names and dates. At rear is a 12 page catalogue for Dean & Son. The title-page does not give publisher date or author. The dethronement date of 1870 for Napoleon III is not stated and so almost certain that this was published prior to 1871 the books advertised in the catalogue suggest a date of about 1860. Covers are dark blue with ornate dulled gilt lettering and decoration on the front and bind decoration on the back the spine is plain. There is a crease on the front cover which shows on the inside cover with a crack in the paste-down. The binding is sound although the paper has split over the rear inner hinge and partially over the front. Pale yellow end-papers are lightly marked pages are clean. Assumed first edition. 36 12.
