HAKAN ERTUGRAL.
History of chemistry in ancient Turks.
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 176 p. Generally, outside of the academic word, nomads are not considered as the part of the civilization process. Most of the times, due to the Eurocentric thoughts that were developed in the 19th century, scientific and technological improvements of the humanity were considered unique to Europe. Therefore, other people that were conquered by European armies were thought that they were completely out of the civilization process and the lived as 'barbarians' because they did not live or think like Europeans. According to this view, if they will civilize or they can be considered as 'developed nation', they had to live like Europeans, at least, they had to have same cultural attitudes or they must mimic. This bias made hard to understand how other cultures lived and what they developed in their material culture. However, during the 20th century, this linear and positivist understanding of history have been changed. In this book, first of all intellectual process on scientific progress was evaluated and then, the place where the Turks could be placed in this progress was examined.

Akdeniz'in en büyük antik tersanesi Dana Adasi.
New Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 16 cm). In Turkish. 284 p., color ills. Akdeniz'in en büyük antik tersanesi Dana Adasi. "... The work at and around Dana Island (Pityoussa / Pityussa) yielded very important results with regards to archaeology. There is a modern lighthouse to warn seafarers about the shoal just off shore in the west. This shoal is about 50 cm. below the water surface and not visible in stormy weather, thus posing a great threat for seafarers. To the south-east of the shoal is a recently sunken modern ship at a depth of 25-35 m. covering a wide area at the bottom. Based on numerous wreck remains around the shoal, it is thought that this modern shipwreck currently conceals many other archaeological remains. In the vicinity of the lighthouse are numerous amphorae on the bottom and buried underneath the sand. The most significant find from this region is an iron ram used on ancient warships. Detailed underwater exploration around the island attested wrecks along the east, south and west coasts as well as anchors datable to the Bronze and Iron Ages and the Roman and East Roman periods. The most important outcome is the identification of structural remains under water by the coast on the mainland side of the island. Some of the remains belong to walls fallen because of an earthquake on the land. Some others are beaching sites hewn into rocks in the water (or on land but then submerged as the water levels rose)"... HALID ZIYA USAKLIGIL, (1865-1945).
Saray ve ötesi. Son hatiralar. 3 volumes set.
Very Good Turkish Modern aesthetic cloth bdg. Very good+. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. [xiv], 1104, [17] p. B/w ills. Halit Ziya Usakligil was born in Istanbul in 1865. He went to primary school and then attended the secondary school Fatih Rustiyesi in the same city. His family moved to Izmir in 1879. He completed his secondary education in Izmir attending the school which now is known as Izmir Atatürk Lisesi. He later attended a Christian school to learn French where he completed his first translation works. Usakligil founded the newspaper Hizmet in 1886. After 1896 his works were published in the Turkish literary journal Servet-i Fünun, known for its adoption of European literary styles. When his novel Kirik Hayatlar (Broken Lives) was censored by the Ottoman Regime in 1901, he stopped publishing novels. Broken Lives could only be published in 1923 after the establishment of modern Turkey. Usakligil's early style is based closely on French Romanticism and most of his novels deal with unfulfilled love. His work is distinguished from contemporary Turkish literature by its more concrete form and creates its own artistic language through the use of Persian and Arabic loanwords. In his later years the writer moved to the village of San Stefano near Istanbul. In 1926, when a new law imposed to give a Turkish name to each community, he suggested to give to the village its present name of Yesilköy (literally: "Green Village"). Memoirs of Usakligil.

HALIL ERSIN AVCI.
The Dardanelles Campaign in world media, 1915.= Dünya medyasinda Çanakkale Savaslari, 1915.
New English Original bdg. HC. 4to. (27 x 20 cm). In English and Turkish. 224 p., ills. How do you suppose the Dardanelles front, one of the most important fronts in Turkish history, echoed in a world without radio, television or internet? The fight did not stay only in the land, sea and air; there were deep battles in the writings of the press and in the drawings and art of print media. This book is the culmination of ten years of work to assemble more than eight hundred of the thousands of cartoons, propaganda posters, illustrations and postcards about the battle of the Dardanelles from the world press describing Turkey. What do you say to examining the battle on the media front between the Allied and Central powers through the lens of the visual riches that were published by the press elements and newspapers of that time period? The weapons of this battle are pens sharper than swords, as well as photographs, cartoons, illustrations, propoganda posters and postcards more effective than the bullets in place of which they are used!
