MURAT SAV, MEHMET KURTOGLU.
A restoration story [of] Seyh Süleyman Masjid. (Turkey - Italy collaboration of restoration approach).
New English Paperback. 4to. (30 x 21 cm). In English. 224 p., color ills. A restoration story [of] Seyh Süleyman Masjid. (Turkey - Italy collaboration of restoration approach). This publication, for which Nicola Berlucchi wrote a significant contribution, is the result of intense international collaboration favored by the Vakiflar Genel Müdürlügü association, which is involved in the management of the Ottoman church property estate in Turkey. The work, which describes the application to a Turkish religious structure of a typical European restoration approach, particularly Italian, which involves the reconstruction of all the architectural-architectural phases of the building, is therefore an important witness to the attempt to international dialogue made by Turkey, despite the period of strong instability it faces.

MURAT SÖZERI.
Mut Claudiopolis. Mersin - Turkey. Travel guide.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 12 cm). In English. 111, [7] p., color and b/w ills. Claudiopolis was an ancient city of Cilicia. Ammianus mentions Silifke and Claudiopolis as cities of Cilicia, or of the country drained by the Calycadnus; and Claudiopolis was a colony of Claudius Caesar. It is described by Theophanes of Byzantium as situated in a plain between the two Taurus Mountains, a description which exactly, corresponds to the position of the basin of the Calycadnus. Claudiopolis may therefore be represented by Mut, which is higher up the valley than Seleucia, and near the junction of the northern and western branches of the Calycadnus. It is also the place to which the pass over the northern Taurus leads from Laranda. Pliny (v. 24) mentions a Claudiopolis of Cappadocia, and Ptolemy (v. 7) has a Claudiopolis in Cataonia. Both these passages and those of Ammianus and Theophanes are cited to prove that there is a Claudiopolis in Cataonia, though it is manifest that the passage in Ammianus at least can only apply to a town in the valley of the Calycadnus in Cilicia Trachea. The two Tauri of Theophanes might mean the Taurus and Antitaurus. But Hierocles places Claudiopolis in Isauria, a description which cannot apply to the Claudiopolis(es) of Pliny and Ptolemy. The city apparently received the Roman colony name Colonia Iulia Felix Augusta Ninica, and minted coins in antiquity.

Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Cr. 8vo. (19 x 11 cm). In English. 127 p., ills. Neolithic site of Çatalhöyük. Two hills form the 37 ha site on the Southern Anatolian Plateau. The taller eastern mound contains eighteen levels of Neolithic occupation between 7400 bc and 6200 bc, including wall paintings, reliefs, sculptures and other symbolic and artistic features. Together they testify to the evolution of social organization and cultural practices as humans adapted to a sedentary life. The western mound shows the evolution of cultural practices in the Chalcolithic period, from 6200 bc to 5200 bc. Çatalhöyük provides important evidence of the transition from settled villages to urban agglomeration, which was maintained in the same location for over 2,000 years. It features a unique streetless settlement of houses clustered back to back with roof access into the buildings.

MURAT ÇELIK.
Clothing norm and attires of the Ottoman ilmiye class.
New English Original wrappers. Small 4to. (26 x 15 cm). Edition in English. 279 p., color ills. Those who founded and built the Ottoman mentality is the Ottoman ulema and the ilmiye class, which is its institutional structure. Despite the fact that ulema, which constitutes the Ottoman ilmiye class within the askerî class is divided into different sub-classes, the center they are affiliated is the Ottoman medrese. In this regard, the Ottoman medreses are the center of the Ottoman ilmiye class and its intellectual mentality; therefore, it has its own tradition, customs, and clothing form. And attires make the Ottoman ilmiye visible within the state with all its elements and reiterate its status. The clothing regulations and differences of the Ottoman ilmiye class manifest itself strongly from studentship, which is the lowest level, to the office of the sheikh al-Islam, the highest post. Differences and status regulations are made distinct through the design and colors of attires as well. Thus, they are rendered easily distinguishable in the society. With this study, covering the attires belonging to the Ottoman ilmiye class, it is aimed to provide contribution to three fields. Firstly, it is aimed to unfold the clothing norms of the Ottoman ilmiye class, and hence to establish a theoretical base. Surely, the clothing norm of the Ottoman ilmiye class has a philosophical background and reason. The design of this theoretical plan and reason is discussed in this study. Another target is to classify attires belonging to the Ottoman ilmiye class, to serve as a source for future studies. With this classification effort, the ilmiye attires will be sorted out and thus, the attires will be inter-related. The third and the last aim is to pave the way for establishment of the Ottoman ilmiye class attires as a sub-discipline in the Ottoman higher education studies. Because a sub-discipline that will serve as a source for comparative studies can be established as such.

Cilicia'da Yahudiler.
New Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 192 p., b/w ills. Cilicia'da Yahudiler. Jews of Cilicia. In the historical process, Jews began to live outside of Iudaea because of various wars since the famous Babylonian exile, and thus the Jewish diaspora emerged. For this reason, in Jewish religious texts, clues can be followed in areas where Jews spread or in which they establish a commercial relationship - for example, Cilicia. For the Jews in the Old Age, Cilicia's land suitable for agriculture, its temperate structure similar to ludaea in terms of climate, its sea limiter, should be attractive to live. This book aims at examining Cilicia, a place of wild nature images in the past, and the ancient congregation of an ancient congregation that has a special place in history. Thus, the existence of Jews in Cilicia is being presented to readers with concrete data.

MUSA KÂZIM, (Naqshbandi Sheikh al-Islam of the Ottoman Empire), (1858-1920).
[6910 YEARS OF WORLD HISTORY THROUGH THE EYES OF AN OTTOMAN REFORMIST CLERIC] Muhtira-i ricâl ve siyâsîyyûn. [i.e. Memorandum of statesmen and poltics].
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original wrappers. Spine completely worn. Uncut and untrimmed pages. Overall a good copy. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 12 cm). In Ottoman script (Turkish with Arabic letters). 546 p. First and Only Edition of this book through the eyes of an Ottoman reformist Islamist cleric, on 6910 years of human history which Kazim says he personally accepts the five thousand years before Christ and uses Diruz, Levi and Buwayh as the main sources. In this work, 6910 years of historical events have been divided into four chapters. The first chapter starts with the creation of the realm and includes 4200 years of events. The second chapter includes events of eight hundred years, and the centuries and years of these numbers/dates will be followed, based on the history of when and when the events described in this section occurred. The third chapter is the milestones between the times of Jesus and Muhammad. It includes six hundred and twenty-two years between Muhammad's migration. The fourth chapter includes the events starting from the year when the Ottoman state emerged with the migration. This chapter covers six hundred and seventy-seven years. Musa Kazim supported the idea of social and political reforms provided these reforms were not against the basic Islamic principles. For instance, he advocated liberties and freedom that were within the context of Islamic laws. He defended the schooling of women but did not think they needed to obtain higher education. One of Musa Kazim's most argued thoughts is his support for the constitutional monarchy since he took constitutionalism as an inference of Islamic political understanding. He obviously judged absolutism as a non-Islamic establishment and praised constitutionalism, which also meant an appraisal for the 1908 revolution and the CUP rule. Similar to the other Islamists of the Constitutional Era, Musa Kazim had some apologetic ideas about the so-called conflict between religion and science, or the religion-civilization relationship. He refused the idea that Islam as a religion was an obstacle against the progress of humanity as Christianity was. He also defended Muslim society, saying that Islam helped Muslims create one of the highest civilizations of human history. (Source: Daily Sabah: Musa Kazim Efendi: Sheikh al-Islam with reformist Islamic thoughts). Özege 14324. OCLC 21640310. First and Only Edition.

Musarra Antonio
Francesco, i minori e la Terrasanta
8vo, br., pp. 380, cm 12x18. (Peregrinantes in mundo).

A great-grandson, Burak Eldem, is a writer while another, Edhem Eldem, is a renowned historian. More names include Erol Eldem, Tiana Eldem, Levent Eldem and Ercan Eldem, an architect. MUSTAFA (Authorized person of the Waqf), (Early 19th century).
[MUWAQQIT EFFENDY: TIMEKEEPING OF THE SPECIAL WATCH IN THE TOMB OF SULTAN MEHMET II] Historical manuscript document on the fee of a muwaqqit who was hired to set the special watch that Pertevniyal Kadin Efendi donated to the tomb of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han.
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original historical autograph manuscript document sealed by the authorized person of the Pertevniyal Hanim Waqf on special paper. 32x18 cm. In Ottoman script. 6 lines with its annotated confirmation with red ink. 1 p. Historical manuscript document on about the muwaqqit who was hired to set the special watch that Pertevniyal Kadin Efendi donated to the tomb of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han. Pertevniyal Sultan [i.e. "Descended from Radiance"], (1810-1884), was the thirteenth wife of Sultan Mahmud II, and Valide sultan to their son Sultan Abdulaziz of the Ottoman Empire. Pertevniyal exerted some influence over her son. When Abdulaziz took his trip to Europe, Pertevniyal was anxious about him the whole time he was away. On his way home he stopped at Ruse, Bulgaria, where Midhat was governor, with the intention of a month and acquainting himself with the Balkan country. But Pertevniyal, a possessive and short-sighted woman, wrote him to come home immediately. Sultan of Turkey though he was, he obeyed his mother's command. Pertevniyal contributed to the instability of her son's rule by meddling in affairs of state. Especially unwise was her alliance with Mahmud Nedim Pasha, the sycophantic grand vizier whose recklessness and incompetence led to further financial chaos. She founded the Pertevniyal High School as well as Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque in 1872. In the days when the Hejaz was part of the Empire, the Porte tried to improve the health situation there. Pertevniyal, built hospitals in the Harem-i Sherif, and young Turkish doctors went out from Istanbul to man them. Pertevniyal Sultan was a great philanthropist, and thanks to her influence, she had the opportunity to make her son do whatever he wanted. In order to provide income to the foundations that it intends to establish, lands called Fasil fields. She commissioned a fountain in front of the Kâtib Mosque in October 1862, and then it was removed from the square and moved to the entrance door of the mosque on the grounds that it narrowed the road. She also built three fountains, one in Suboyu (Bige) village and two on Karaköy road in Sebinkarahisar. In 1864, she built a shipbuilding pool (stone loom) in Tersane to cover her own income, the first Ottoman battleship came out of this loom. "In the history of Islam, a muwaqqit was an astronomer tasked with the timekeeping and the regulation of prayer times in an Islamic institution like a mosque or a madrasa. Unlike the muezzin (reciter of the call to prayer) who was usually selected for his piety and voice, a muwaqqit was selected for his knowledge and skill in astronomy. The main duty of the muwaqqit was timekeeping and the regulation of daily prayer times in mosques, madrasas, or other institutions using astronomy and other exact sciences. At its zenith in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, major mosques often employed prominent astronomers as muwaqqits. In addition to regulating prayer times, they wrote treatises on astronomy, especially on timekeeping and the use of related instruments such as quadrants and sundials. They were also responsible for other religious matters related to their astronomical expertise, such as the keeping of the Islamic calendar and the determination of the qibla (the direction to Mecca used for prayers).
