ill., br. La gabber è un frenetico tentativo di accelerare oltre l'accelerazione, per andare oltre la velocità del flusso di dati del presente. Musica della deprivazione sensoriale, suono supersonico e subumano apprezzato dalle masse di giovani suburbani, balli schizofrenici inframmezzati dalla mossa spastica dello hakken, canzoni per teppisti da periferia in cerca di risse, decine e decine di locali chiusi dalla polizia in via preventiva, sottoproletari vestiti con i più costosi brand in circolazione, hooligan di curve da stadio rasati come skinhead, considerati nazisti, razzisti e maschilisti... Eppure in Olanda, dove è nata la prima scena, il termine gabber vuol dire compagno. Esistono monografie sui generi musicali più oscuri, dal metal estremo all'industriai, ma sono rari i libri di approfondimento sulla cultura legata alla techno hardcore/gabber. Ma questo movimento, nato all'inizio degli anni novanta, si è diffuso in tutto il mondo e ha imposto modi di vestire, comportamenti sociali e stili di vita. In un gioco di specchi dallo spirito dissacrante, il visionario scrittore Riccardo Balli ricostruisce la storia della gabber, miscelando il presente al passato attraverso la lente di ingrandimento dell'avanguardia storica del futurismo.
