The onetime singer and voice of Barbie's boyfriend started the firm in 1963 as the Pacific Artists Agency one of the first commercial and voice-over talent outfits in Los Angeles. Bill Cunningham the original voice of Barbie's boyfriend Ken and a singer once backed by Fred Astaire who 60 years ago launched the company now known as the CESD Talent Agency has died. He was 96. The founder was 'among the great innovators and gentlemen of the talent representation business' CESD partners Ken Slevin and Paul Doherty said in a statement. 'Bill set the template for client and customer service particularly in commercial voice-over and print. He was a warm gregarious classy man who made a positive impact on all those he represented and employed. It was our honor to know him and to learn from him. With the encouragement of friend and singer Peggy Taylor Cunningham in 1963 invested his life savings into starting the Pacific Artists Agency one of the first commercial and voice-over agencies in Los Angeles. It was located at Crossroads of the World on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. He started the business by creating an album of his 10 voiceover clients and a book of headshots of his on-camera clients complete with handwritten bios then personally dropped them off to producers around town. Pacific Artists became Cunningham & Associates in 1967 and he would open a second office in New York and a third in Chicago as the firm became one of the most successful bicoastal commercial/voice-over agencies in the business. Cunningham retired in 1989 having sold the agency to T.J. Escott and Angela Dipine who in turn sold it in 2005 to Slevin and Doherty. CESD stands for Cunningham-Escott-Slevin-Doherty. He appeared on NBC's Voices of Walter Schumann and The Tennessee Ernie Ford Show sang on motion picture soundtracks for Fox Paramount and Warner Bros. and was the first voice of Ken for Mattel Toys. In 1962 Cunningham saw the release of his debut album I'm Always Chasing Rainbows which was financed by Astaire and he followed that by touring with Judy Garland. brossura Il desiderio di pensare ancora una volta la figura di John Cage (1912-1992) non è motivata solo da fattori meramente cronologici (centenario della nascita a Los Angeles, ventennale della scomparsa a New York), ma dalla consapevolezza che l'attuale presente, più che mai, si sta configurando come un'esposizione delle profezie racchiuse nel suo lavoro. Partendo dalle idee centrali che hanno contrassegnato il suo percorso (sperimentazione e casualità, organizzazione del suono e aleatorietà, astrazione e neorealismo, gestualità e autonomia del suono) si può scorgere come le apparenti contraddizioni di queste polarità marchino tuttavia la coerenza di un'epoca che, ancora una volta, ripensa il fondamentale rapporto tra arte e vita. John Cage è, infatti, figura che sintetizza e mette in questione alcune istanze primarie del rapporto che l'arte istituisce con la vita, sia sul versante della natura che su quello della società, coinvolgendola lungo tutto il crinale dell'ascesa e del declino della tarda modernità occidentale, ripensata attraverso il linguaggio della musica e della danza. Il suono, come una delle due modalità di presenza del silenzio, e l'azione, come uno dei due possibili modi dell'inazione, diventano fattori di una declinazione non solo artistica di "pensare" e "dare a pensare" oltre i linguaggi della ratio, che fanno di Cage uno dei protagonisti più emblematici del secolo scorso e, per questo, del tempo avvenire.

Exploring the close bond the visual arts have established with sound and music from past to present, "Plurivocality" reveals the special personal and social roles music plays in artistic processes. The exhibition features current works by artists that treat the visual and the auditory not as distinct disciplines, but rather as two fields that work in tandem. The paintings, sculptures, videos, and installations in the exhibition render sound and music visually as a theme, concept, or issue, using different forms of music and sound as metaphors and means of expression. The exhibition also serves as a source for understanding the cultural and sociopolitical role sound and music play in Turkey and how various music trends have influenced visual art practices. A research area at the entrance of the exhibition hall, "Repertoire" explores the intersections between music and the visual arts in Turkey as well as past collaborations between actors in the two fields. About the Book:-It is an exciting story, how music has for thousands of years been held in balance between the basic facts that, on the one hand sound is vibration of matter ruled by mathematical ratios and that, on the other hand, musical art works are immaterial, indeed, irrational. In studying this first attempt at a synthesis, the reader should not forget that this book treats the rise of music in the ancient world and consequently in little concerned with the practice, the conceptions and the misconceptions of medieval and modern Oriental music, except in so far as they throw light on antiquity. Nor should he forget at what disadvantage such an attempt is placed by the incompleteness of our sources both musical and extramusical. About the Author:-Curt Sachs (1881 –1959) was a German musicologist. He was one of the founders of modern organology (the study of musical instruments). Among his contributions was the Hornbostel–Sachs system, which he created with Erich von Hornbostel. Born in Berlin, Sachs studied piano, music theory and composition as a youth in that city. However, his doctorate from Berlin University (where he was later professor of musicology) in 1904 was on the history of art, with his thesis on the sculpture of Verrocchio. He began a career as an art historian, but promptly became more devoted to music, eventually being appointed director of the Staatliche Instrumentensammlung, a large collection of musical instruments. He reorganised and restored much of the collection, and his career as an organologist began. His numerous books include works on rhythm, dance and musical instruments, with his The History of Musical Instruments (1940), a comprehensive survey of musical instruments worldwide throughout history, seen as one of the most important. The long relationship he had with W. W. Norton & Company began with The Rise of Music in the Ancient World (1943). Although these works have been superseded by more recent research in some respects, they are still seen as essential texts in the field. About the Author:-Curt Sachs (1881 –1959) was a German musicologist. He was one of the founders of modern organology (the study of musical instruments). Among his contributions was the Hornbostel–Sachs system, which he created with Erich von Hornbostel. Born in Berlin, Sachs studied piano, music theory and composition as a youth in that city. However, his doctorate from Berlin University (where he was later professor of musicology) in 1904 was on the history of art, with his thesis on the sculpture of Verrocchio. He began a career as an art historian, but promptly became more devoted to music, eventually being appointed director of the Staatliche Instrumentensammlung, a large collection of musical instruments. He reorganised and restored much of the collection, and his career as an organologist began. His numerous books include works on rhythm, dance and musical instruments, with his The History of Musical Instruments (1940), a comprehensive survey of musical instruments worldwide throughout history, seen as one of the most important. The long relationship he had with W. W. Norton & Company began with The Rise of Music in the Ancient World (1943). Although these works have been superseded by more recent research in some respects, they are still seen as essential texts in the field.
