New York: Playbill 1956. Original Programs . Paper. Two original playbills from the early career of the legendary musical star Barbara Cook. The first one is an opening night playbill for the musical "Candide" that starred Cook in this operetta based on the Voltaire satire. The show had a book by Lillian Hellman and a score by Leonard Bernstein. The second playbill is from what is probably Ms. Cook's most famous show "The Music Man" for which she won a Tony award. The cover art is by Tony Walton. Both playbills are fine. Also included is a 20pg. souvenir program from another early Cook musical "Plain and Fancy" which is from later in the run. After these are a few hundred pp. of full scores in chronological order taken from issues dated April 1918 through December 1927 but not consecutive. One loose leaf replaced. This is a treasure chest of pieces for several grades of piano study which is sure to have something of interest to every teacher and student. A few small white spots on outer cover.
