Not the limited edition but a true first edition later fourth printing so stated signed by the illustrator Willy Pogany on the title page: "To Max Herzberg/ with best compliments/ Willy Pogany/ 1930". Spine does show some detachment from text block but still sturdy with pages that are smooth and sewn in still and are clean and bright. Filled with color and b/w illustrations. Original blue boards. Solid and VG in its 1/4 navy-blue cloth over light-blue boards with a clean bright title-label to the front panel. Light scuffing to the panels light wear along the tips and the spine ends --and a partially-torn spine label. Internally beautifully-designed endpapers and magnificent Pogany color illustrations as well as silhouettes and marginalia at virtually every page. Very light soiling and several minor chips not affecting the plates at a few of the lower-edges tender but still perfectly sturdy inner hinges half-title/frontispiece page loose. Octavo beautiful late '20s illustrations in a number of cases with a strong Deco feel. Thomas Nelsonand Sons unknown

2015Cresciuto nella fede evangelica su cui fondava un'idea laica di libertà, Willy Jervis - ingegnere all'Olivetti di Ivrea, all'epoca definita "covo" di antifascisti - è figura di rilievo nella storia partigiana, in particolare delle valli del Piemonte. Dopo l'8 settembre 1943 costituì a Ivrea i primi gruppi partigiani. Ricercato, entrò in clandestinità, aderì al Partito d'Azione e aiutò a espatriare in Svizzera, grazie alle doti di alpinista, gruppi di ebrei e prigionieri anglo-americani. Catturato, imprigionato e torturato nel 1944 fu trucidato dai nazifascisti. Autori: Lorenzo Tibaldo.
