This publication, for which Nicola Berlucchi wrote a significant contribution, is the result of intense international collaboration favored by the Vakiflar Genel Müdürlügü association, which is involved in the management of the Ottoman church property estate in Turkey. The work, which describes the application to a Turkish religious structure of a typical European restoration approach, particularly Italian, which involves the reconstruction of all the architectural-architectural phases of the building, is therefore an important witness to the attempt to international dialogue made by Turkey, despite the period of strong instability it faces.

Deniz hamamindan plaja nostalji. [Exhibition catalogue]. Istanbul's Seaside Leisure: Nostalgia from Sea Baths to Beaches analyzes Istanbulites' relation with the sea and swimming from a cultural and sociological perspective. It scrutinizes the transformations of this relation, which started with the sea baths in the second half of the 19th century and continued till the mid-20th century. Having brought together photographs, published material, ephemera, videos and music from varying private and institutional collections, prominently from Suna and Inan Kiraç Photography Collection, the exhibition illustrates how a waterside city like Istanbul had to make do with "sea baths" that were enclosed with wooden panels, despite the effect of Westernization. It is a documentary testament of the radical transformations in the Republic's lifestyle, socialization of the norms of howIstanbulites used their free time, and the notion of sea, which once only evoked the ideas of trade, travel and scenery. The exhibition catalogue presents three articles, which approaches the relation of Istanbul with the sea between the second half of the 19th century and the mid-20th century from varying perspectives. The curator of the exhibition Zafer Toprak's article on the social transformation in relation with the Istanbulites' intimacy with the sea is accompanied by Gökhan Akçura's work on sea and entertainment culture, and Meltem Ö. Gürel's study in which she reads the architectural interventions in regard to people's relation with the sea.

A study on Gentile Bellini, (1430-1507), was an Italian painter of the school of Venice. He came from Venice's leading family of painters, and at least in the early part of his career was more highly regarded than his younger brother Giovanni Bellini, the reverse of the case today. From 1474 he was the official portrait artist for the Doges of Venice, and as well as his portraits he painted a number of very large subjects with multitudes of figures, especially for the Scuole Grandi of Venice, wealthy confraternities that were very important in Venetian patrician social life. In 1479 he was sent to Constantinople by the Venetian government when the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II requested an artist; he returned the next year. Thereafter a number of his subjects were set in the East, and he is one of the founders of the Orientalist tradition in Western painting. His portrait of the Sultan was also copied in paintings and prints and became known all over Europe.

The religious sites of the Chiristian peoples who worshipped in the city gives one the opportunity to do just that. Some of these churches are still active, some are in ruins, and some have been turned into mosques - but they all carry the scent of histor within their stones, their domes and arches, their altars, their chapels. Edith Oyhon and Bente Etingu have wandered in the streets of Istanbul searching for traces of time past. This book isa journey into those worlds that they have discoverd: Stories of how some of the churches dating back to Byzantine times were built, the Protestants and others. Churches in Istanbul is a guide that will encourage the reader- wanderer to seek further in a city that hides much more!".
