The Ottoman palace women (Women in Turkey).= Osmanli saray kadinlari (Türkiye'de kadin). Ottoman palace women is the third volume of study entitled Women in Turkey, and is a detailed and documentational account of how women of many races, faiths and creeds entered palace service, and of their lifestyles from the humblest to those who attained the coveted position of favourite of wife to the sultan. It was impossible for anyone but the members of the sultan's own household to see and describe the harem of the Ottoman palace. That is why, with rare exceptions, the portrayals of palace officials, female slaves, odalisques, favourites, wives and sultan mothers by foreign artists who visited Istanbul at various times are mere figments of the imagination and as such are interesting testimony to the power of imagination and artistic ability of European painters...".

2016New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 200 p., ills. Pero Tafur seyahatnamesi (9 Mayis 1437 - 22 Mayis 1438). Prep. by Hakan Kiliç. Translaiton from Spanish. Pero Tafur was a Spanish traveler, historian and writer. Born in Córdoba, to a branch of the noble house of Guzmán, Tafur traveled across three continents during the years 1436 to 1439. During the voyage, he participated in various battles, visited shrines, and rendered diplomatic services for Juan II of Castile. He visited the Moroccan coast, southern France, the Holy Land, Egypt, Rhodes, Cyprus, Tenedos, Trebizond, and Constantinople. He also visited the Sinai Peninsula, where he met Niccolò Da Conti, who shared with Tafur information about southeastern Asia. Before returning to Spain, Tafur crossed central Europe and Italy. Between 1453 and 1454, to judge from interior evidence in the single surviving manuscript, he wrote a book called Andanças e viajes de Pero Tafur por diversas partes del mundo avidos (unpublished until 1874, when it was published by Marcos Jiménez de la Espada). It is one of the few books written by a Spanish traveler during the medieval period (that of Ruy González de Clavijo is another example). Tafur dedicated his book to a member of the Guzmán family, the same family to which Saint Dominic belonged. He thus provides biographical information regarding this saint. He provides valuable details concerning the Baths of Zeuxippus, the Hagia Sophia, the Holy doors in Rome, and the obelisks in Rome. Having returned to Spain in 1439, some time before 1452 Tafur married Doña Juana de Horozco. A son appears to have predeceased his father, but three daughters are mentioned in Doña Juana's will. He played a prominent role in local affairs: he and his son both held office as aldermen in 1479.
2022New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 256 p., b/w and color ills. The new exhibition of the Yapi Kredi Culture Arts and Publishing (YKKSY) complex on Istiklal Street is a journey into the memory of a family of three generations of artists over hundred years. Originally from Bulgaria, the Hristoff family first came to Istanbul in 1923, and then immigrated to New York in 1963. The three generations of artists document Istanbul, starting with black and white photographs in the 1920s and 1930s. Peter Dimiter Hristoff was right in the midst of the first days of the Republic, and began collecting ephemera. This habit was continued by his son Dimiter Hristoff and grandson Peter, who is one of the curators of the "Memento Istanbul: Hristoff Family Archive" exhibition. "From Sofia to Paris, from Paris to California, from California to New York," Peter Hristoff, a New York based artist, educator and co-curator of the exhibition says. His great grandfather, an orphan born in the mid 1800s, he says, was raised by a farmer family who called him 'garden boy'... (Source: TRT World).
