1978This is a very good softcover copy with only light cover wear. Completely clean inside and out. This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Sotheby Parke Bernet in Hong Kong on December 4, 1978. The sale consisted of a large assortment of carpets and textiles, all from China. The sale featured the Mandarin Square collection of Mrs. Clifford D. Martin. One of America's best known collections of Chinese textiles was formed in the early part of the 20th century by Mrs. Clifford D. Martin. A contemporary art critic wrote in the New York Times, (June 5, 1937), that she possessed the finest private collection in New York, if not the entire country. Not long after this article appeared, the collection was cited in the Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies in 1944. The collection was also exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in 1945, and published in the University of Pennsylvania Museum Bulletin in 1953. One of Mrs. Martin's primary interests was Mandarin Squares, a selection of about 30 was included in this auction. 143 lots in the complete sale. All illustrated in black & white + 6 color plates of carpets. Price estimates sheet included, but no prices realized sheets. 10" high X 7" wide, 78 pages.
