Assume first edition 1897 inscribed by Rosny using their pseudonym 'Rosny' to Maurice Bernhardt the son of Sarah Bernhardt and Prince Maximillien of Belgium; he became a playwright and theatrical director. Light rubbing to binding very good pages tanning. This appears to be a novel about the eternal battle of the sexes in this case between an older man who marries a young woman they have children but the man seeks to have other amorous adventures outside the marriage and yet does not want to entirely abandon his young family. The rupture that occurs between the man and his wife happens slowly over time but rises to a heartbreaking denouement. The two brothers who comprised Mr. Rosny eventually split up and wrote books on their own as Rosny Major and Rosny Minor. E. Plon hardcover
