Best.-Nr. 1565415Harper & Brothers. Collectible - Good. Condition: Good -; Hardcover. Elephant folio. First American Edition 1884. Illustrated title page and 26 plates engraved by Gustave Dore. A captioned tissue guard precedes each plate. This was Dore's last book. Book is in Good- condition. Covers have soiling with moisture staining on front. Front hinge cracked at top but binding is still tight with wear at corners. The first 8 plates have a small amount ofwater staining at top of pages. The last 18 plates start to show some rippling along bottom 1/4 which then devolops into a larger water stain. Larger staining at top shows up. Staining grows worse last 20 pages or so. Most of the water stains are on the margins but do encroach onto the illustrations especially the lst 12 or so. Staining causes rippling at bottom 1/3 of these pages. Where staining reaches illustrations it is somewhat subtle and does not ruin plates. Heavy staining on last endpages with foxing on rear endpage and pastedown. Far from pristine but acceptable condition. Photos upon reques Harper & Brothers hardcover
