Nella prima si cerca di riflettere sullo statuto teorico della fotografia di moda, delineando un ruolo attivo e non semplicemente illustrativo del mezzo nei confronti del fenomeno stesso. L'idea forte che il testo propone è infatti quella di una "moda della fotografia", cioè di una vita virtuale della moda all'interno dell'immaginario costruito e diffuso dalla fotografia. La seconda sezione propone invece un'ampia ricognizione storica, dalle origini fino ai nostri giorni, su tutto questo settore, attraverso le figure chiave dei suoi maggiori protagonisti. Un tentativo di estrarre dalle varie poetiche questioni utili a delineare una complessiva identità della fotografia di moda.
