1825réf. 000613Tompkins Delaware DE. Good in Fair dust jacket. 1825. Full-Leather. On offer is a remarkable historical journal with many dates the earliest of which is 1825. It begins with the heading: "A bill of the Delawrae River" and lists what research suggests to be stops and business along the the Delaware River waterway. There are hundreds of names with the dates and amounts collected from each individual. Some coded references. There are also mentions of loans the nature of the loans and when satisfied. Though a primitive work there are numerous references to Moses L. Ogden as his family was prominent to the Delaware area from pre-Revolutionary times. We believe besides some mentions of the lumber purchases and sales that Mr. Ogden collected taxes. Delaware historians will have a grand time completing the research on this journal. Book measures 4" x 6.5" is leatherbound very dry and the inner pages are linen. Overall condition is good. Most of the 34 leaves are clean and clear some age-toning. ; Manuscript; 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall; HANDWRITTEN MANUSCRIPT DOCUMENT LETTER AUTOGRAPH DIARY JOURNAL LOG KEEPSAKE WRITER HAND WRITTEN DOCUMENTS SIGNED LETTERS MANUSCRIPTS HISTORICAL HOLOGRAPH WRITERS DIARIES JOURNALS LOGS AUTOGRAPHS PERSONAL MEMOIR MEMORIAL PERSONAL HISTORY AMERICANA CANALS CANAL LIFTS LOCKS NAVAL WATER RIVERS PORTS BOATING TIDES MARYLAND DELAWARE RIVER DE MD TAXES LEDGER . hardcover

1978réf. 4748-30421Content appears as new unopened unread & unblemished in dark red textured boards displaying minimal surface/edge wear. Shots intermingled with screams and moans were crackling all around. A crazed caclphony shook the air. And then silence. And again shots and screams……. Izio Sternberg awakened. Lying on his hard cot he looked around the dingy infirmary. The two other sick co-workers were fast asleep curled p in cumbrous blankets. They breathed heavily in the cold ward. The screams and shots maintained a steady crescendo but his comrades seemed undisturbed in their slumber. Just like Izio they too were awarded W wichtig letters by the grace of General von Brauchitz. They and about three hundred others were singled out as productive workers and put in the labor camp. The privileged ones. their lives were spared and guarded by the Schupo Kripo and Gestapo. Small Temple X– Lib stamp FLEP glue residue from pocket BLEP else content appears as unopened unread and unblemished with wraps displaying no significant surface/edge wear as shown. Small scratch bottom left near spine. This is one of the most hilarious books I've ever read while also being an insightful glimpse into the life of a philosopher. In it Maimon describes his humble roots in a deeply impoverished rural Jewish community in Eastern Europe his enlightenment and then his strange and grueling journey to find others as enlightened as he thought himself to be. Hungry for anything even faintly resembling wisdom Maimon oscillates between the mystical and the skeptical with the skeptical side gaining influence as the book progresses. Eventually in his travels he arrives in Germany and surrounds himself with the urbane intellectuals he'd always hoped to join but never quite feels at home. By the end of the book we see Maimon sinking into depression and drink having chosen his career and status over a path with more heart regretting his decision to leave his family and roots behind Maimon is a joy to read at least in his autobiography- his philosophical writings can be very abstruse. He's extremely neurotic but also acutely self-aware and honest never losing sight of a faint glimmer of hope in spite of all his tribulations. Great therapeutic weekend reading for jaded philosophers and other tired intellectuals. Shipping/Handling/Insurance/Tracking Included within the continental U.S. Free Shipping.
