Damals waren das neun Provinzen des Osmanischen Reiches zwischen dem Tigris bei Hasankeyf und dem Euphrat bei Hit. Ihre Wirtschaftsstruktur und ihre Besitzverhaltnisse werden dorfweise untersucht, nash den türkischen Steuerregistern quantifizierd und in grossen Übersichtskarten dargestellt. Zahlreiche weitere Aspekte der Siedlung jener Zeit, der Ortsnamen, des Steuersystems, der Bevölkerungszahlen und der stadtischen Wirtschaftsstruktur werden diskutiert. Ein gorsser Teil der vorliegenden Darstellung gilt der Dokumentation der Wirtschaftsstruktur jeder einzelnen Siedlung. Etwa dreitausend Dörfer und mezra'a gab es damals in diesem Gebiet.
