ref. 2628This is the first English translation of one of the most important interesting and comprehensive discussions of the occult sciences ever published. Martin Del Rio's Investigations into Magic deals not only with magic in all its forms from the manipulation of angelic and demonic powers to straightforward conjuring and illusion but also with witchcraft alchemy astrology divination prophecy and possession by evil spirits. It was the indispensable reference work on the subject after the Malleus Maleficarum had declined in that role. This copy is fine as is the dust jacket in all respects. First edition published LOVANII 1599 Louvain Belgium. In the early 16th century other Latin editions appeared in Mainz Lyon and Venice. Ref. Jean-Pierre Coumont. Demonology and Witchcraft. Tillich's enthusi- asm for systematic construction is well known ; it started from his first published but less noticed monograph The System of the Sciences 1923 ; Tillich's theology had a notable influence on several Chicago - school thologians. addressing in particular the " death of God " movement and its impact on religious language ; In volume 2 Paul Tillich comes to grips with the central idea of his system-the doctrine of the Christ. Man's predicament is described as the state of "estrangement" from himself from his world and from the divine ground of his self and his world. This situation drives man to the quest for a new state of things in which reconciliation and reunion conquer estrangement. This is the quest for the Christ. ; the third and last of his Systematic Theology Paul Tillich sets forth his ideas of the meaning of human life the doctrine of the Spirit and the church the trinitarian symbols the relation of history to the Kingdom of God and the eschatological symbols. He handles this subject matter with powerful conceptual ability and intellectual grace. The problem of life is ambiguity. Every process of life has its contrast within itself thus driving man to the quest for unambiguous life or life under the impact of the Spritual Presence. The Spritual Presence conquers the negativities of religion culture and morality and the symbols anticipating Eternal Life present the answer to the problem of life ; bookplates on front endpapers of Adrian Milton Riviere 1932-2024.
