With holograph pencil annotations throughout. Fodder for for an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 4 Episode 13 Sept 14 1991 where Gordon was resurrected as a master of bad taste. Small-town teenagers and their high school science teacher fight a gigantic mutant spider. The last of the "giant creature" films directed by Gordon from the 1950s. In an attempt to ride on the success of "The Fly" which debuted a few months earlier in 1958 the film's working title "The Spider" replaced "Earth vs. the Spider" on most of its promotional materials. The screen title however was never officially changed. Yellow titled wrappers rubber-stamped copy No. 48. Title page integral to the distribution page with receipt intact dated April 29 1958 with credits for screenwriters Laszlo Gorog and George Worthing Yates and story credit to Bert I. Gordon based on a story by Gordon indicated here though not credited in the film written for the screen by Fred Freiberger and Lester Gorn and starring Peter Graves and Peggie Castle. One of two Republic features produced by AB-PT or American Broadcasting-Paramount Theatres "The Beginning of the End" is one of the more famous monster cheapies in which Department of Agriculture functionary Graves and photojournalist Castle discover huge grasshoppers that are part of a gone-awry experiment in radioactivity. The US Army finds out too late and the first target is Chicago. White card wrappers with the stamp of the Sunset Script Service in red on the inside rear wrapper and the film title in black on the front wrapper. Gordon's "big" films in which some element or character grows to monstrous size only this time he had the novel idea to combine the sci-fi trope with a teenage beach film with "Village of the Giants" as the laughably campy result. A group of teenagers including Beau Bridges accidentally stumbles upon a way to grow themselves to unusually large size and terrorizes a small town until a young Ron Howard the nerdy "Genius" character figures out how to turn them small again. Set in the small fictional town of Hainesville California shot on location in Los Angeles. White titled front self wrapper and blue rear wrapper noted as FINAL DRAFT on the front wrapper dated April 13 1965 with credits for screenwriter Alan Caillou and story writer Bert I. Gordon. The first film in Pudovkin's "revolutionary trilogy" followed by "The End of St. Petersburg" 1927 and "Storm Over Asia" 1928 and a key film in the development of montage techniques in film although in contrast to his colleague Eisenstein Pudovkin tended to use montage to capture individual character rather than mass movements.
