On the front pastedown endpaper is pasted a booklet pp8 containing the introduction staples rusting; the cover of which is a facsimile of the covering of the original panorama printed in 1844. On the rear pastedown endpaper is folded in concertina mode the twelve feet fold-out panorama printed on laid paper. The fold out panorama appers to be printed on eight sections which are joined together. As a print it is unequalled in th History of Wood engraving . and is a historical record of the appearance of the Great Metropolis seen from the Thames in 1844. Hull: J. Ferraby. c.1820. Chapbook in original paper covers bound in later paper wrappers. Illustrated with 12 wonderful na�ve woodcuts. A very good copy the binding firm with minor rubbing. The contents with some occasional foxing are otherwise in good order and clean throughout. A lovely example. A scarce Yorkshire chapbook recounting the adventures of Tom Thumb a member of King Arthur's court. In it Thumb encounters fairies and goblins is abducted by a raven and is eaten by a cow. Luckily the cow 'could not rest until.she had backward cast Tom Thumb' who emerged 'besmeared' and was placed 'poor lad' into his mother's apron. He is also later consumed by a giant in whose stomach he makes 'so great a tumbling' that the giant 'spew'd' him 'three miles into the sea wherein a fish soon took him up and bore him hence away'. Inside the front cover is an advertisement for Ferraby's business: "At the Printing-Office Market-Place Hull are sold The greatest Choice of Old Ballads Godly Patters Histories and Children's Books printed in as neat a manner and with as good Cuts as at any other Place in England".
