Quello della Lopardi è un viaggio non affidato alla mente razionale, perciò non si sviluppa secondo logica, seguendo il filo di un ragionamento verso la conclusione, ma piuttosto procede in modo non lineare, guidato dall'intuizione, da una guida interiore. Il lettore è invitato a compiere, insieme all'autrice, delle esplorazioni alla ricerca di una verità che avrà valore solo quando interiormente diverrà la Verità. Maria Grazia Lopardi, infatti, non cerca di ricondurre il tutto a una costruzione organica e compatta, ma lascia tracciato il percorso delle sue intuizioni, tra una ricerca e l'altra, delle svolte che coincidenze straordinarie hanno dato alla sua vita. A volte si è trattato di piccole, ripetute banalità che sono assurte al ruolo di coincidenze significative, suggerimenti di una sorgente interiore di conoscenza, come quando le è sembrato palese cosa sia il Graal e da dove derivi questa parola che nei secoli ha indicato l'irraggiungibile meta di ogni cercatore del divino.

br. Capire il presente implica sempre un viaggio nel passato. Vale per la nostra vita individuale dove dobbiamo sentirci sempre figli del bambino che siamo stati. Vale per la nostra vita culturale e sociale, connessa con le sue radici nel mondo antico. Del resto la tendenza a vivere solo di presente (presentismo), potenziata dalla globalizzazione e dalla delocalizzazione informatica, si può considerare uno dei rischi della modernità e può essere contrastata con una maggiore attenzione al passato. La via seguita è quella del confronto col lascito e con la miniera inesauribile di immagini, di suggestioni, di possibili risposte che ci giungono dal mito antico che vive ancora, in forma esplicita o allusiva, in molte espressioni della modernità. Si propone un viaggio nell'isola di Delos volto a definire le tappe che l'hanno resa uno dei santuari più importanti dell'antichità. Con una continua attenzione ai passaggi che hanno plasmato la vocazione sacra dell'isola. Lungo un percorso che si fa risalire fino all'epoca cicladica e che, col proseguo del tempo, ne fa la culla del dio che porta alla pienezza alcuni assunti della religione olimpica, come l'aspirazione all'astrazione, alla luce e all'ascensionalità. Le tracce di questa evoluzione religiosa vengono cercate ed indicate in loco in un continuo pèndant con le vicende storiche. Il tipo di viaggio proposto mira a aggiungere la dimensione temporale ad ogni aspetto dei luoghi visitati così da far sì che possano essere guardati in un'ottica quadridimensionale. Una attenzione particolare viene riservata al periodo di massimo fulgore economico ed edilizio che fece dell'isola un crogiolo di commerci e di incontri, capace di anticipare molte evoluzioni culturali del mondo antico. Non una guida turistica dunque, ma semmai una guida storica volta a comprendere il senso antropologico di un santuario così importante, in uno stretto rimando alle testimonianze sul campo.

Were Greek painters simply depicting the stories of Achilles and Odysseus as recounted in Homer's epics Or did they work independently following their own traditions without regard to the Iliad the Odyssey and other poetry of their time Steven Lowenstam offers here an alternative theoretical framework arguing that Greek artists and poets interacted with each other freely always aware of what the others were producing. As Trojan War myth was the common inheritance of all Greek storytellers verbal and visual depictions of heroic myth were not created in isolation but were interdependent responses to a centuries-old tradition. As Witnessed by Images investigates visual depictions of Achillean and Odyssean myth from ca. 650-300 BCE and traces the many messages that the stories of Achilles and Odysseus inspired.
