‎Première et unique édition de ce recueil de lettres consacrées aux volcans dAuvergne dû à l'abbé Paul-François Lacoste, de Plaisance (1755-1826), naturaliste et professeur dhistoire naturelle à Toulouse. Cet ouvrage fait directement suite à un précédent: Les Observations sur les volcans de l'Auvergne (1803). Ce dernier est le fruit dun premier voyage effectué en 1802 et consiste en une succession de réponses à diverses interrogations sur les volcans dAuvergne. Dans ce premier ouvrage, Lacoste de Plaisance commente notamment les idées du naturaliste Eugène Patrin, dont il fut le disciple, et de Jean-Etienne Guettard, naturaliste du XVIIIème siècle. Ainsi, sont débattues les idées concernant la formation des volcans, l'hypothèse d'un recouvrement par les eaux, leur composition et fonctionnement, l'époque et la durée pendant laquelle ils ont été en activité ou encore s'il faut craindre un réveil etc. Ces Lettres Minéralogiques, fruit dun deuxième voyage effectué en 1804, constituent le second ouvrage de lauteur sur le sujet et sont un moyen pour ce dernier de compléter voire corriger les propos quil a tenus dans son précédent ouvrage. Ce travail sorganise en 45 lettres couvrant un bon nombre de volcans dAuvergne (Monts Dôme, Monts d'Or et Cantal). Lauteur joint à la fin de louvrage 2 tableaux dépliants intitulés «tableau des substances minérales non volcaniques» et «tableau des substances minérales volcaniques». First and only edition of this collection of letters dedicated to the volcanoes of Auvergne by the abbot Paul-François Lacoste, de Plaisance (1755-1826), naturalist and professor of natural history in Toulouse. This work is a direct follow-up to a previous one: Les Observations sur les volcans de l'Auvergne (1803). The latter is the result of a first trip made in 1802 and consists of a succession of answers to various questions about the volcanoes of Auvergne. In this first work, Lacoste de Plaisance comments in particular on the ideas of the naturalist Eugène Patrin, of whom he was the disciple, and of Jean-Etienne Guettard, naturalist of the XVIIIth century. Thus, the ideas concerning the formation of volcanoes, the hypothesis of a covering by water, their composition and functioning, the time and duration during which they were in activity or if we should fear a revival etc. are debated. These Mineralogical Letters, fruit of a second trip made in 1804, constitute the second work of the author on the subject and are a means for the latter to complete or even correct the remarks he made in his previous work. This work is organized in 45 letters covering a good number of volcanoes of Auvergne (Monts Dôme, Monts d'Or and Cantal). At the end of the work, the author attaches 2 folding tables entitled " Table of non-volcanic mineral substances " and " Table of volcanic mineral substances " (translated from French). A well preserved copy in its publisher's paperback, untrimmed and enriched with an ex-dono from the author to Mrs Jourdes.‎
