The Carians overseas: Egypt - Iran - Israel.
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In English. 325 p., color ills. The Carians overseas: Egypt - Iran - Israel. THE CARIANS OVERSEAS is a documentary project, which follows the traces and documents the remains of the Carians, who, starting from the 10th BC, have worked in Egypt, Iran and Israel either as mercenaries or stonemasons. Being among the first settlers of the region of Southwest Anatolia, the Carians raised the world's first women admirals Artemisia I and Artemisia II, bequeathed us the Maussolleion, the monumental tomb of King Mausolus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, offered the word "mausoleum" to world literature and preserved their culture and traditions for thousands of years. Based on the geographical features of their land, they lived either on the mainland, the islands or in locations overseas. They were known as good soldiers, fearless sailors and pirates with advanced warrior skills. Ancient Egyptian sources describe the Carians, who went to Egypt to work, as "men of bronze coming from the sea". According to Herodotus of Halicarnassus, the Carians had created the tradition of fixing a handle to a shield, fastening a crest and a tassel on the helmet and adorning and painting the shield. In ancient Persian sources, the Carians are referred to as people serving in the Persian army and navy, who were, besides their warrior character, skilled stonemasons, artisans, craftsmen and qualified in handling heavy goods. Being one of the most interesting civilizations of Anatolia, the Carians have proved their existence in the countries they have been, by inscribing their initials on stones in the Carian language and thus leaving important information regarding the places where they have lived, camped as well as their expedition routes. Following the traces of the Carians in Egypt, Iran and Israel and documenting their remains in museums and archaeological sites despite great difficulty, THE CARIANS OVERSEAS is an important source, for both the information it contributes to Carian archaeology and the research stories in its content.

Stories and memories of Bodrum's Jewish community.
New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 195 p. Stories and memories of Bodrum's Jewish community. Some may know Bodrum as a pleasant vacation spot in Southwestern Turkey. Few, however, would know this town as the home of a small but influential Jewish community that thrived until the mid-20th century. In this book, artist and researcher C. M. Kösemen uses historic sources and interviews to flesh out the first comprehensive overview of this little-known Sephardic community. Here you will find compelling stories and poignant memories; of ancient Jewish settlements in the remote corners of the Bodrum peninsula; of pleasant family relations between Turks and Jews; of wartime hardships and near-escapes; of people like Janet Akyüz Mattei, who went on to become one of the world s greatest astrophysicists; of Abraham Galante the historian; and more Illustrated with detailed black-and-white photographs and annotated with footnotes that explain local nuances, this book also contains a touristic itinerary of Judaic sites in the vicinity of Bodrum.

Abdülhamid II and the Muslim world.
New English Original bdg. HC. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. [xii], 398 p. Abdülhamid II and the Muslim world. "Abdulhamid II is no doubt one of the most controversial Ottoman Sultans in history. A massive literature continues to florish about him and his policy of pan-Islamism. Sometimes permeated by biased and subjective approaches, this literature is increasingly deminated by more balanced and objective accounts depicting a more realistic image of the Sultan ed the developments of his reign. The present book represents a fine example of the latter group of studies. It contains a well-documented anlysis of the policies of Abdulhamid II, particularly pan-Islamism, with due regard to the international political environment and the intellectual movements surrounding the idea of Islamic unity and solidarity.".

Istanbul: Between the Global and the Local (World Social Change)
8vo, br. ed. This groundbreaking volume investigates the processes of globalization in Istanbul, Istanbul usually is identified as a battleground between East and West, Islam and secularism. Yet the authors argue that beyond these clichés lies a complex reality as Istanbulites simultaneously try to accommodate, understand, challenge, and shape the sweeping transformations that globalization has brought to their city. Explaining the course of the conflicts and the compromises involved in maintaining a precarious urbanity, this theoretically informed volume focuses on fields of struggle ranging from politics to heritage, humor to music, public space to housing.

Soft cover. Very Good. 4to - over 9 - 12" tall. Original typescript on carbon paper with autograph correction by ink. 31x20 cm. In French. 3 pp. Two reports by Captain Fauvre Inspector of the Ottoman Gendarmerie on the projects of the Greek authorities. Report numbered 42 starts as 'A newspaper arrives this morning announcing that the Greek government accepts the conditions of the armistice proposed by the allies and that the Greek troops would evacuate all Asia-Minor'. Then it goes on as "On this subject travelers coming from Athens say that if the Greek government orders to evacuate Asia-Minor the Greek army will not obey. General Papoulas withdrew and the independent Greek army of Asia Minor would be placed under the command of General Yoannou. In a word the Greek army would make under the command of General Yoannou against its Government the same gesture as the Turkish army under the Command of Moustapha Kemal against the Government of Constantinople'. The second report is related to Koum-Bouroun Ezine Pounar-Bachi Boz-Keuy etc.
