In Terrasanta.

CARLO ZECCHI, (Italian conductor, pianist, music teacher), (1903-1984).
[ZECCHI IN ISTANBUL] Autograph concert program signed 'Carlo Zecchi', on a rare printed program of a concert performed in Pera in 1933.
Very Good Italian Original autograph concert program signed by Carlo Zecchi as 'Carlo Zecchi, 17-4-33'. 21x14,5 cm. Bilingual in Italian and Turkish. 3, [1] p., signature on cover. Program of Zecchi (as a pianist) and Nerio Brunelli (as a violoncellist) which was performed in Constantinople (Istanbul), Beyoglu in 1933 (Lunedi17 Aprile, alle ore 21,30). The program has a decorative cover with its decorative borders and has a couple of postal stamps on its second page (One is Ottoman, one is the Republican Turkey stamp). According to the program, Zecchi and Brunelli performed Mozart, Scarlatti, Beethoven, Varacini, Boccherini, Respighi, Casella, Chopin, Dunkler Brunelli, and R. Strauss. Carlo Zecchi was an Italian pianist, music teacher, and conductor. Zecchi was born in Rome. In Berlin, he studied piano with Ferruccio Busoni and Artur Schnabel. He led pianistic courses in Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, and in Salzburg. He was a highly acclaimed performer of the works of Domenico Scarlatti, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Claude Debussy, and other Romantic music. Carlo Zecchi made his Italian debut in 1920, first performed abroad in 1922, and made his first tour of the USA in 1931. In 1939 he had a car accident, which obliged him to abandon work as a soloist, although he continued playing the most demanding chamber music and conducting. He played as only as of the duo partner of the cellist Enrico Mainardi. He toured America with the Florence May Festival Orchestra in 1957 and was the permanent conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra from 1964 to 1976. In his last years, two fingers on his left hand were paralyzed, yet he performed Schubert's Trout Quintet. He also taught, mostly at the S. Cecilia Academy in Rome and the Salzburg Mozarteum. Luckily several hours of Carlo Zecchi's playing were recorded, and he also made several recordings shortly before his death. His Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and pieces from the Baroque era, such as Antonio Vivaldi-J.S. Bach Concerto, Scarlatti, and Galilei remain unparalleled. While Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli was better known and often recorded, Zecchi represents the height of pianism to emerge from Italy. (Source: Bach Cantatas).

Very Good Romanian Original manuscript and partly printed autograph document signed by The King of Romania Carol I, a medal reward certificate given to Mustafa Hasim Pasha, (1852-1920), with co-signatures by Ministrul Afacerilor Straine Cancelar al Ordinelor General de divizie Iacob N. Lahovary, (1846-1907), and Sheful Serviciului A. M. Mitibieu (?). 34x22 cm. In Romanian. Bifolium. 1 p. Blind-stamped by Romanian royalty sign. [i.e. Carol I, the grace of God and the national will, King of Romania. To all present and future, Health. Wishing to give a sign of Our Goodwill to His Excellency Hachim Pasa Minister of Public Instruction of Turkey. We confer on him the rank of Grand Cross of the Order of the Steula of Romania]. A good paper, one page on bifolium. Carol I, born Prince Karl of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, was the first monarch of Romania from 1866 to his death in 1914, ruling as Prince (Domnitor) from 1866 to 1881, and as King from 1881 to 1914. He was elected Prince of the Romanian United Principalities on 20 April 1866 after the overthrow of Alexandru Ioan Cuza by a palace coup d'etat. In May 1877, he proclaimed Romania an independent and sovereign nation. The defeat of the Ottoman Empire (1878) in the Russo-Turkish War secured Romanian independence, and he was proclaimed King on 26 March [O.S. 14 March] 1881. He was the first ruler of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen dynasty, which ruled the country until the proclamation of a socialist republic in 1947. During his reign, Carol I personally led Romanian troops during the Russo-Turkish War and assumed command of the Russo/Romanian army during the siege of Plevna. The country achieved internationally recognized independence via the Treaty of Berlin, 1878 and acquired Southern Dobruja from Bulgaria in 1913. Domestic political life was organized around the rival Liberal and Conservative parties. During Carol's reign, Romania's industry and infrastructure were much improved, but the country still had an agrarian-focused economy and the situation of the peasantry failed to improve, leading to a major revolt bloodily suppressed by the authorities. He married Princess Elisabeth of Wied in Neuwied on 15 November 1869. They only had one daughter, Maria, who died at the age of three. Carol never produced a male heir, leaving his elder brother Leopold next in line to the throne. In October 1880 Leopold renounced his right of succession in favour of his son William, who in turn surrendered his claim six years later in favour of his younger brother, the future king Ferdinand. (Wikipedia). Mustafa Hasim Pasha, (1852-1920), was one of the Ottoman grand viziers of Georgian origin. He was son of Sheik Al-Islam Ahmed Muhtar, (1807-1882). He served as the President of the Court of Justice and the Undersecretariat of the Ministry of Justice. Iacob N. Lahovary was a member of the Romanian aristocracy, a general, politician and diplomat who served as the Minister of War and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Romania.

Die Laodikeiakirche. Das Christentum im Lykostal.
New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In German. 106 p., color ills.

New English Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In French. 106 p., color ills.

Laodikeia kilisesi. Lykos Vadisi'nde Hiristiyanlik.
New English Paperback. PRoy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 106 p., color ills. Since 2003 excavations and restoration work at Laodikeia on the Lykos have been Undertaken by the author on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Pamukkale University. The work conducted has shown that the history of Laodikeia, which is located within the borders of Eskihisar, Goncali and Bozburun neighbourhoods (former villages) and surrounded by rivers, namely Asopos, Kadmos, and Lykos, on three sides 6 km the north of Denizli, goes back to 5500s BC, not to the third century BC as was formerly thought. The city experienced numerous earthquakes, some very devastating, but always rebuilt; however, the earthquake in the reign of Focas (r. 602-610) razed her to the ground; the site was abandoned and the survivors settled at Kaleig of Denizli and Hisarkoy on the northern foots of Salbakos (Babadag). The city of Laodikeia had her high times during the Roman Imperial period and Late Antiquity when Christianity spread from the fourth to the sixth century. As the city was one of the first Seven Churches she became a metropolitan see quite early. Evidence uncovered indicates that the lifestyle of the city changed with Christianity and the city became a venue of pilgrimage as of the fourth century. With the spread of churches as architectural monuments across the city it is observed that some rooms in the houses with peristyle courts were converted to oratories building up a tradition of family chapels. This short work first tells briefly about the spread of Christianity in the region and churches in the city. This book's main focus is the Church of Laodikeia uncovered in 2010; therefore, you will find detailed information on its architecture, fountains, pastophoria, synthronon, ambo, bema, altar, baptistery and the corridor leading to it, frescoes, opus sectile flooring, and mosaics and the dating based on excavation finds. Furthermore, the protective roof project and the steel-and-glass catwalk for visitors are presented comprehensively.
