Während einer Reparaturarbeit an einem Wasserkanal in der dieser Gemeinde fand man im Meer Ringe zum Anbinden von Schiffen, die zu einem alten Hafen gehörten. Als diese Ringe aus dem Meer getragen wurden, befand ich mich zufällig dort und das trug dazu bei, meine ersten Schritte für diese Forschung zu machen. Denn dass sich dort früher ein Hafen befand, war zwar bekannt, es befand sich aber bis dahin noch keine Spur davon. Man begegnete bis dahin an der Küste diesbezüglich auch keinen archäologischen Befunden. Nach den Hinweisen, die auf einen Hafen deuteten, führten archäologische Befunde dazu, diese Gemeinde als Aulai zu lokalisieren. Diese Feststellung stellte sich anschließend eigentlich als Ausgangspunkt für andere Feststellungen heraus. Denn antike Quellen beschrieben die Lokalisation von Siedlungen, deren Lokalisation sich bis heute nicht konkret feststellen lie?en, mit dem Anhaltspunkt anderer Siedlungen, deren Lokalisation ebenfalls noch nicht festgestellt werden konnten. Nach dieser Phase der Forschung war eigentlich eine handfeste Stütze gefunden, mit der man Städte wie Zephyrion, Ingira, Aulai, Ankhiale, Kyinda, Kundi und Sizzu lokalisieren oder zumindest einen Lokalisationsvorschlag machen kann. A portion, previously not fully explored, of historical information about Al-Quds/Jerusalem is embodied in the postcards and souvenir objects featuring the city. These items, that were posted or kept by visitors, are assets of cultural heritage and hold anthropological value both for their own sake and for the thoughts and purposes attached to them. "Souvenir of Jerusalem" sheds light on this valuable legacy. The book contains reproductions of postcards, posters, and photographs of various objects that Mr. Murat Kargili had assembled in his personal collection and supplemented with annotations. The book came out in IRCICA s series of studies on al-Quds and Palestine. Earlier IRCICA published albums of historical photographs of al-Quds (Al-Quds/Jerusalem in historical photographs, 2009; Jerusalem in Historical Photographs From Past to Present, 2015) but this is the first publication to focus on postcards and artefacts. The first chapter of the book is reserved to postcards, with annotations on the quarters, structures and scenes of life. The second chapter contains a large variety of printed materials such as posters, trade cards, gravures and maps featuring a fascinating range of subjects and objects. The last chapter is devoted to souvenir objects acquired from Jerusalem. IRCICA is pleased to publish this album which mirrors Al-Quds of the late 19th early 20th centuries. The said album came out in a deluxe edition printed on archival-quality paper. It features more than 150 printed materials such as postcards, maps, engravings, posters, trade cards and pictures of souvenir objects which will take the reader on a journey to Al-Quds; this main sacred city that has seen the longest state rule in its history under Muslims administration.

Ammianus mentions Silifke and Claudiopolis as cities of Cilicia, or of the country drained by the Calycadnus; and Claudiopolis was a colony of Claudius Caesar. It is described by Theophanes of Byzantium as situated in a plain between the two Taurus Mountains, a description which exactly, corresponds to the position of the basin of the Calycadnus. Claudiopolis may therefore be represented by Mut, which is higher up the valley than Seleucia, and near the junction of the northern and western branches of the Calycadnus. It is also the place to which the pass over the northern Taurus leads from Laranda. Pliny (v. 24) mentions a Claudiopolis of Cappadocia, and Ptolemy (v. 7) has a Claudiopolis in Cataonia. Both these passages and those of Ammianus and Theophanes are cited to prove that there is a Claudiopolis in Cataonia, though it is manifest that the passage in Ammianus at least can only apply to a town in the valley of the Calycadnus in Cilicia Trachea. The two Tauri of Theophanes might mean the Taurus and Antitaurus. But Hierocles places Claudiopolis in Isauria, a description which cannot apply to the Claudiopolis(es) of Pliny and Ptolemy. The city apparently received the Roman colony name Colonia Iulia Felix Augusta Ninica, and minted coins in antiquity.

The taller eastern mound contains eighteen levels of Neolithic occupation between 7400 bc and 6200 bc, including wall paintings, reliefs, sculptures and other symbolic and artistic features. Together they testify to the evolution of social organization and cultural practices as humans adapted to a sedentary life. The western mound shows the evolution of cultural practices in the Chalcolithic period, from 6200 bc to 5200 bc. Çatalhöyük provides important evidence of the transition from settled villages to urban agglomeration, which was maintained in the same location for over 2,000 years. It features a unique streetless settlement of houses clustered back to back with roof access into the buildings.

Those who founded and built the Ottoman mentality is the Ottoman ulema and the ilmiye class, which is its institutional structure. Despite the fact that ulema, which constitutes the Ottoman ilmiye class within the askerî class is divided into different sub-classes, the center they are affiliated is the Ottoman medrese. In this regard, the Ottoman medreses are the center of the Ottoman ilmiye class and its intellectual mentality; therefore, it has its own tradition, customs, and clothing form. And attires make the Ottoman ilmiye visible within the state with all its elements and reiterate its status. The clothing regulations and differences of the Ottoman ilmiye class manifest itself strongly from studentship, which is the lowest level, to the office of the sheikh al-Islam, the highest post. Differences and status regulations are made distinct through the design and colors of attires as well. Thus, they are rendered easily distinguishable in the society. With this study, covering the attires belonging to the Ottoman ilmiye class, it is aimed to provide contribution to three fields. Firstly, it is aimed to unfold the clothing norms of the Ottoman ilmiye class, and hence to establish a theoretical base. Surely, the clothing norm of the Ottoman ilmiye class has a philosophical background and reason. The design of this theoretical plan and reason is discussed in this study. Another target is to classify attires belonging to the Ottoman ilmiye class, to serve as a source for future studies. With this classification effort, the ilmiye attires will be sorted out and thus, the attires will be inter-related. The third and the last aim is to pave the way for establishment of the Ottoman ilmiye class attires as a sub-discipline in the Ottoman higher education studies. Because a sub-discipline that will serve as a source for comparative studies can be established as such.
