Presumably this was to draw attention to through events held at various locations in New York City to 18 year old voting age ending the draft legalizing marijuana ending racism sexual freedom antiwar and anti-Vietnam war causes among others. The Peace and Freedom Party was founded in 1966 as a left wing "radical" according to the party itself party with candidates for president in 1968. United States was a passenger cruise ship designed to US Navy specifications and subsidized by the US government as it was to be used as a troop transport ship in wartime should the need arise.
