A brochure highlighting the plight of sharecroppers both African-American and white tenant farmers citing difficulties faced in gaining education advancement and living wages while also citing sharecropper statistics and highlighting government and private programs available to sharecroppers. Included is a brief discussion of the Fayette-Haywood county evictions in Tennessee and mention of the establishment of Freedom Village a tent city erected by the evicted tenant farmers. The National Sharecroppers Fund was the funding branch of the Southern Tenant Farmers Union eventually growing to be an international organization advocating for the rights of small farmers. Perhaps kept for a store owned by Charles Davis Thyng who was a druggist in New Hampton at that time period. Ledger kept in in a Day Book for Meservey's Book-Keeping without a Master. States published by C.D. Thyng New Hampton NH at the bottom of the front cover. Wraps. Narrow folio. 31 pp. A handwritten book of balances owed with names of customers for an unnamed retailer in New Hampton from April to September of 1876. The first few pages bear entries for various books sold mostly grammars and mathematics as well as Latin lexicons and classics. Ink and paper is sold as well with many other retail items not book related also noted entries of books not found after the first few pages. GOOD condition. Writing very faint with many entries barely readable. Some foxing to the front cover heavy to the rear. Some soiling and staining. Minor creasing and tearing to the wrappers. One side with a food menu the other a liquor and wine list.
