‎Nihon o otozureta osuman teikoku no ryokôka kâdî Abudyurureshito Iburahimu. Edited by Ergün Demir. Translated by Yutsuko Kureya; Mitsuhito Asô. [i.e. Ottoman traveler Qadi Abdurreshid Ibrahim visited Japan].‎

‎New New Japanese Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Folio. (33 x 24 cm). Edition in Japanese. 148 p., richly illustrated in b/w and color. Abdurresid Ibrahim (Abdrashit Gumerovich Ibragimov [Gabderrashit bin Gumer bin Ibrahim bin Gabderrashid bin Gabderrahim]), (1853-1944) was a Russia-born Tatar Muslim Alim (singular of Ulama), journalist, and traveller who initiated a movement in the first decade of the 20th century to unite the Crimean Tatars. He visited Japan in Meiji period and became the first imam of Tokyo Camii (Tokyo Mosque). born on April 23, 1857, in the Tara town of the Tarski district of the Tobolsk province of the West-Siberian General Government, now the administrative center of the Tarsky district of the Omsk Oblast. His ancestors by language and origin were Turkic peoples. He has the brother Ishmael. Abdrashit Ibrahimov attributed himself to the Tatars, and his father Gumer was Siberian Bukharans. His father's grandfather Gabdrashit was the Akhoond of the Tara town, one of the founders of the town's stone mosque. Mother - Gafafa Bin Ibragim Bin Zhagfar (?-1871), teacher for about 40 years, and mother's father Ibragim came from the Bashkirs of the Almenevo, Kurgan Oblast village, in the Tara city served as Mullah. He studied since the age of seven, received his primary education from a teacher Zeinalbashir, and at the age of 10 he studied in the madrasa of the Almenevo village. At the age of 17, he became an orphan and left for the Tyumen city where he continued his studies at the Yana Avyl Madrasa, and then, at the Madrasa of the Kshkar village (now in the Arsky District of Tatarstan. In 1878-1879, he was a teacher in the Akmolinsk Oblast (Russian Empire). In 1879-1885, he continued his education in Medina, Mecca and Istanbul. He returned to Russia in 1885. From 1885, he served as the imam-khatib of the cathedral mosque in Tara, where he was also a mudarris of madrasa. In 1892-1894, he served as the qadi of the Orenburg Muslim Spiritual Assembly. In his youth, A. Ibragimov adhered to the Jadid ideas. A. Ibrahimov, who led the anti-czarist propaganda work from the Pan-Islamism standpoint among the Muslims of Russia, set as its goal the liberation of all Muslim peoples from any kind of colonial oppression by the "infidels". In this situation, Japan, a longtime rival of Russia in the Far East - like the Ottoman Empire in the west - was a natural ally of the Pan-Islamists. Japan's rapid industrial ascension fascinated him - as did for the many others anti-imperialist-minded nationalists of the East. Counting on creating a united anti-Russian Muslim front of action, Ibragimov visited the Ottoman Empire in 1897. In 1897-1900 travels from Istanbul to Egypt, Palestine and Hejaz, then to France, Italy, Austria, Serbia, Bulgaria. Through the south of Russia to the Caucasus, along the Caspian coast to Bukhara, Turkestan, Semirechye region. Siberian caravan route returns to Tara. In 1902, Ibragimov, becoming an uncomfortable figure for Turkey, received the order from Sultan Abdul-Hamid II to leave the Ottoman Empire. In 1902-1903, he visited Japan for the first time, where he participated in anti-Russian propaganda. In this regard, Ibragimov, at the request of the Russian consul in Japan, was expelled from the country. Arriving in Istanbul in 1904, he was arrested, handed over to the Russian consul and sent under guard to Odessa. At the turn of 1905-1906 Ibrahimov was released. Being the former board member of the Muslim community of Orenburg, he became one of the leaders of the Ittifaq al-Muslimin movement and the organizer of several Muslim congresses. At the First All-Russian Muslim Congress in Nizhny Novgorod, A. Ibragimov's main rival was Ayaz Ishaki.‎

‎Multiplicity of Scripture, The Making of the Antwerp Polyglot Bible.‎

‎, brepols, 2025 hardcover, 585 pages, Size:152 x 229 mm, Illustrations:8 colour plates, Language(s):English. *New. ISBN 9780888442345.‎

‎The Antwerp Polyglot Bible (1568?1573) has long been recognized as one of the most ambitious typographical enterprises of the sixteenth century. Upon completion, it was the most elaborate Bible ever printed, a library of biblical erudition with editions of the ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, Greek, and Latin versions together with new scholarly instruments necessary to study and compare them. Yet powerful contemporaries also perceived it as a threat to the Church. The very idea of a polyglot Bible, especially one that included the Hebrew Bible and Aramaic Targums of Jewish tradition, ran counter to the Council of Trent?s decree that the Latin Vulgate was the only authentic version of Christian Scripture. In the middle of the sixteenth century, biblical philology and Catholic orthodoxy turned onto a frightful course of collision, and the pages of the Antwerp Polyglot Bible formed the force field at their crossroads. The Multiplicity of Scripture is the first book-length study of how the Antwerp Polyglot was made. Combining the history of the book with the history of scholarship and drawing on primary sources from archives and libraries across Europe, it reconstructs the editorial history of Christopher Plantin?s masterpiece from within his printing shop. Set in the contexts of fierce biblical controversies in Tridentine Europe and the fraught afterlife of Jewish traditions in post-expulsion Spain, it tells a story of crisis and craftsmanship, of ink-stained proofs in four different alphabets and the extraordinary team of scholars and printers that made this monument of Renaissance printing and scholarly endeavour.‎

By 1894 it had grown sufficiently that the ITU agreed to give the new union jurisdiction over pressroom workers and to transfer its remaining members in the field. On 3 November 1895 the union was chartered by the American Federation of Labor. The union began accepting press feeders into membership and in 1897 it adopted its final name. 1In 1911 the union constructed its headquarters at Pressmen's Home Tennessee the site selected to also house a union-owned sanatorium and trade school. The trade school taught letterpress but mostly focused on retraining workers in offset printing. " from Wikipedia; Put with social issues in ephemera. Pictured 4/13/24 . Binding is black cord. 51 leaves plus covers. This consists of black and white photographic illustrations with individual captions. Covers have a few rubs light soiling and short creases. There is a number written in blue ink at lower corner of the rear cover. This rare souvenir album contains captioned photographs of the funeral events honoring the slain McKinley in his hometown of Canton Ohio. One of the photographs of President Theodore Roosevelt and the Cabinet awaiting the arrival of the casket at the Canton Court House. A search of the On-line Catalogue of the Library of Congress on March 27 2021 identified four copies two in Ohio Libraries one at the University of Texas at Austin and one at a Scottish Rites Temple in Massachusetts. Occasionally copies appear briefly on-line and generally are purchased quickly. Thousands who witnessed the funeral procession as it moved from the McKinley home on Market Avenue N to the church services were "Hushed and Broken in Heart" as they watched the cortege. Mrs. McKinley spent a half hour alone with the casket but she would not attend the funeral services instead staying at home the rest of the day. The funeral procession began at the McKinley home at 1:14 p.m. and arrived at the First Methodist Church now Crossroads United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. McKinley's body first lay in state for public viewing in Buffalo N.Y. on Sept. 15-16;. The nation focused its attention on the casket that made its way by train first to Washington where it first lay in the East Room of the Executive Mansion and then in state in the Capitol and then was taken to Canton. A hundred thousand people passed by the open casket in the Capitol Rotunda many having waited hours in the rain; in Canton an equal number did the same at the Stark County Courthouse on September 18. The following day a funeral service was held at the First Methodist Church; the casket was then sealed and taken to the McKinley house where relatives paid their final respects. It was then transported to the receiving vault at West Lawn Cemetery in Canton to await the construction of the memorial to McKinley already being planned. The former first lady accompanied her husband on the funeral train. Historian Margaret Leech noted "the circuitous journey was a cruel ordeal for the woman who huddled in a compartment of the funeral train praying that the Lord would take her with her Dearest Love". She was thought too weak to attend the services in Washington or Canton although she listened at the door to the service for her husband in her house on North Market Street. Among organizations that participated in the procession were Canton Commandery No. 38 Knights Templars; The Grand Commandery Knights Templars of Ohio; The Knights Templars of Louisville Kentucky and Pittsburgh; Eagle Lodge No. 431 it would become the McKinley Lodge; The Grand Army Band; and Thayer's Military Band. At the church President Roosevelt occupied the front pew. Behind him were 40 United States senators 120 representatives and many state governors. Honorary pallbearers selected by the family included John C. Dueber George B. Frease R. A. Cassidy William R. Day Joseph Biechele Henry W. Harter William A. Lynch and Thomas McCarty. Widow McKinley remained in Canton for the remainder of her life setting up a shrine in her house and often visiting the receiving vault until her death at age 59 on May 26 1907. She died only months before the completion of the large marble monument to her husband in Canton which was dedicated by President Roosevelt on September 30 1907. William and Ida McKinley are interred there with their daughters atop a hillside overlooking the city of Canton. The Watts Printing Co unknown‎
