‎The memoirs of Dolly Morton. Strictly Limited Issue for Private Subscribers only.‎

‎Philadelphia : Society of Private Bibliophiles 1904. XII, 278 pages. Original half cloth binding. (A littles used. Some pages a little spotted). 18x12 cm‎

‎* The Memoirs of Dolly Morton: The Story of A Woman's Part in the Struggle to Free the Slaves, An Account of the Whippings, Rapes, and Violences that Preceded the Civil War in America, with Curious Anthropological Observations on the Radical Diversities in the Conformation of the Female Bottom and the Way Different Women Endure Chastisement is a pornographic novel published in London in 1899 under the pseudonym Jean de Villiot, probably Hugues Rebell or Charles Carrington who published the work. Another edition was published in Philadelphia in 1904. The book relates the misadventures of Quakers Dolly Morton and her companion Miss Dove who venture into the American South to help with an Underground Railroad. They are captured by a lynch mob, flogged and made to ride the rail, and Dolly Morton is forced to be the mistress of a plantation owner. The book is written as the memoirs of Dolly Morton after she has become a madam. It has been suggested that it may have been an influence on James Joyce's novel Ulysses (Quelle Wikipedia)‎

‎Women Empowerment in Garhwal Himalayas Constraints and Prospects [Hardcover]‎

‎This book is an outcome of a National Seminar organized by the Department of Political Science, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar under the UGC-SAP-DRS programme during November 19-20, 2007 on "Women Empowerment in Garhwal Himalayas : Constraints and Prospects". The objective of this book is to explore the challenges and constraints which hamper women's participation in development programmes as a decision maker and identity as a group. Women of Garhwal Himalayas play a major role in managing natural resources, agriculture and economy and they also suffer from the environmental mismanagement, yet they are neither consulted nor is their plight taken into account by the strategists and planners while making policies. In view of women's contribution towards the society and economy, the purpose of this book is to highlight the situation of women empowerment; realities and its impact on socio-economic justice in general and in particular to the Garhwal Himalayas. Actually there are innumerable issues of the women of Garhwal Himalayas, on which policy decisions and concrete actions need to be taken to ensure full participation and empowerment of the women. This book consists of the papers presented during the seminar in which the authors have suggested the ways and means through which the women can face the environmental, social, and economic challenges and use the clauses of empowerment for their betterment in development programmes and policies. This book also examines how despite poverty, poor health, socio-economic and educational status, women of Garhwal Himalayas are playing a vital role for the society. It also highlights the social, economic, institutional and functional constraints that impair the functioning of women in the policies and development programmes.
