ril. René Descartes è stato tradizionalmente considerato il fondatore di un nuovo paradigma filosofico che ha posto le basi della modernità. Nel presente lavoro, l'autore si interroga sul fondamento di questo comune giudizio, analizzando la riflessione cartesiana alla luce della teoria sulla libera creazione delle verità eterne. In questa dottrina, letteralmente inaudita, Descartes ha dato voce ad un pensiero irriducibile alla tradizione precedente, tracciando le linee guida di un'altra, e ben più radicale, idea di Dio. È significativo, tuttavia, che il filosofo francese si sia limitato ad elaborare ed esporre i presupposti della sua teoria soltanto nel proprio epistolario, e non nelle opere destinate ad un più ampio pubblico. L'analisi delle ragioni di questa scelta intende restituire al lettore la dialettica che ha caratterizzato la riflessione di Descartes, collocandola nell'immaginario barocco cui a pieno titolo apparteneva.

ill., br. Lo Schiaccianoci è uno dei lavori più conosciuti di Cajkovskij, anche grazie alla popolarità dell'omonima Suite. Il suo fascino risiede nell'atmosfera magica e fatata legata al sogno e al ritorno a un sentire ingenuo. Nato dalla riuscita collaborazione tra il compositore Petr Il'ic Cajkovskij e il coreografo Marius Petipa, Lo Schiaccianoci prende spunto dalle pagine del racconto di Ernst Theodor Hoffmann, Lo Schiaccianoci e il Re dei Topi. La storia si svolge in due atti, il primo di ambientazione realistica, nella bottega di Drosselmeyer; il secondo di ambientazione fantastica, nel Regno dei Dolci. Il creatore di bambole Drosselmeyer invita i bambini del quartiere a festeggiare nella sua bottega l'imminente Natale. A tutti regala un vestito da indossare durante le feste, ma la piccola Marie arriva in ritardo e riceve quindi uno schiaccianoci a forma di soldatino. Marie, rimasta sola nella bottega del giocattolaio viene catapultata nel mondo fantastico del Principe Schiaccianoci. La maestria con cui il compositore e il coreografo hanno saputo ricamare sulla storiella per bambini è testimoniata all'interno del volume della collana Monografie d'opera, che dedica ampio spazio ai commenti tecnici e stilistici, ripercorrendo i passaggi che hanno portato alla nascita dell'opera e analizzandone le versioni portate in scena dai grandi coreografi. L'Antologia letteraria ci fa rivivere tutta la magia del Natale e dell'infanzia attraverso il racconto di Hoffmann.
