XII. 1946). - Der studierte Jurist und Musikwissenschaftler übernahm 1926 das Kulturreferat beim Bundespressedienst und wurde 1935 Presseattaché der österreichischen Botschaft in Prag, wo er vor allem mit kulturpolitischen Aufgaben betraut war. 1938 verhaftet und in das Konzentrationslager Dachau verbracht, wurde er nach Kriegsende provisorischer Direktor des Salzburger Landestheaters und bemühte sich als solcher um die Reorganisation der Salzburger Festspiele. Später Leiter der Bundestheaterverwaltung, übernahm er 1954 die Leitung des Österreichischen Kulturinstituts in Rom, wurde später Generalintendant der Wiener Festwochen und von 1963 bis zu seinem Tod Staatsoperndirektor. In seine Amtszeit fielen u. a. die Berufung Otto Schenks als Oberspielleiter und Rudolf Nurejews als Startänzer des Balletts sowie das Staatsoperndebüt Leonard Bernsteins. - Lili Marberg (1876-1962) gehörte von 1911 bis 1950 dem Wiener Burgtheater an. Seit 1936 auch Ehrenmitglied, spielte sie zunächst in Stücken Wedekinds, Hauptmanns und Ibsens, später vorwiegend Königinnen und mütterliche Frauen und galt weithin als vorzügliche Charakterdarstellerin. Zu ihren Hauptrollen zählten Desdemona, Hedda Gabler und Helena in "Vor Sonnenaufgang". Ihre einzige Filmrolle war die des Fräulein Munk in Walter Reischs "Silhouetten" (1936). - Auf Briefpapier mit gedr. Briefkopf.
