Dust jacket shows light wear small chip along top edge of front panel. 1967 10th printing. ; From dust jacket flap: Here is something different from the general run of rewritten Bible stories for boys and girls - a book authentic and informative without being dry and academic. It is a dramatic and convincing narrative of an enslaved people led toward nationhood by a virile and unforgettable leader. Each chapter of the book has two parts. One part gives the story as skillfully and vividly told by one of the country's leading biblical scholars and the other the "Story as it is in the Bible." Bible in German
THE GERMAN BIBLE IN AMERICA. WITH 25 ORIGINAL LEAVES. Introduction by Don Yoder
New Haven; Bryn Mawr; New York 2012. 20; 20pp. text in both English and German plus twenty-five original leaves and six additional illustrated leaves tipped into accompanying folders. Large folio. Fine. In a clamshell box. The German Bible in America has a long and significant history reflective of the European culture which gave it birth; the local conditions of Pennsylvania where it rose to its greatest heights; and the rich German-American culture created by emigrants and their descendants in the 19th-century United States. From the first American edition of a Bible in German in 1743 through the late 19th century numerous printers and publishers issued bibles in various formats ranging from large folios intended for lectern use to smaller versions for personal study. This leaf book celebrates the range and richness of these productions indicative of the world of German culture in America in the 18th and 19th centuries as expressed through its most widely studied text in a series of twenty- five leaves. Each set contains two versions of the descriptive text one in English and the other in German with an introduction by Don Yoder Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies Folklore and Folk- Life at the University of Pennsylvania. Further text describes the printers of each leaf the circumstances under which they were printed and other attributes. Each leaf is enclosed in an individual folder. The German Bible in America is issued in an edition of sixty copies with fifty of the regular series and ten additional deluxe copies containing six extra leaves of illustrations from the illustrated bibles included in the collection. This is one of ten deluxe copies lettered by hand. unknown

Paris: British & Foreign Bible Society at the Imprimérie Royale 1827. In 1820 Kieffer became the first Agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society in France and in the same year began a thorough revision of Ali Bey's translation of the Old and New Testaments. The complete Bible without the Apocrypha was published in 1827 in an edition of 5000 copies together with a further 2000 copies of the New Testament on its own. NEW WORLD TRANSLATION OF THE CHRISTIAN GREEK SCRIPTURES REVISED SECOND EDITION
Brooklyn: Watchtower. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1951. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very minor edge wear on the clean and sound binding. Very minor edge soil. Contents are almost as new. . No DJ. ; First Printing of the Revised Second Edition. 7-1/4" Tall 798pp. Textured Green cloth gold spine and front cover lettering. 6-page Explanation of the Symbols. 6 pages of maps/plans. RELIGION. The Greek text used as the basis of this translation is the widely accepted Westcott and Hort text 1881 . Other texts were also taken into consideration including that prepared by D. Eberhard Nestle and that compiled by the Spanish Jesuit scholar Jose Maria Bover and that by the other Jesuit scholar A. Merk. Archaic language has been disposed of altogether even in prayers and addresses to God; the original Bible was writtten in the living language of the people of the day and so the Bible characters addressed God and prayed to Him in the same everyday language; thus the translation of the Scriptures into a modern language should be rendered in the same style in the speech forms current among the people. ; 7-1/4" Tall; 798 pages . Bible English Scott Commentary
THE HOLY BIBLE CONTAINING THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS; WITH ORIGINAL NOTES AND PRACTICAL OBSERVATIONS .
London: Printed for Bellamy and Roberts 1792. Four volumes bound in six. Quarto. Contemporary unlettered calf marbled endsheets spines gilt. Plates and maps some folding. Institutional bookplate and early gift inscriptions hinges cracked but still holding spine ends chipped scattered foxing and tanning burn scar to lower board of first volume scrape to spine of sixth volume. Still a sound useful set amenable to cosmetics. First edition of Thomas Scott's edition of the English Bible first published in 174 weekly numbers spanning 1788-92. The enterprise contributed to the bankruptcy of the publisher and Scott was saddled with considerable debt but his commentary has been described as "the greatest theological performance of our age and country" - Sir James Stephen quoted by Herbert. The title calls for a Concordance and accompaniments which does not appear in this set -- according to Herbert it is usually the separate 3rd edition of Powell's 1792 concordance and was published as a separate accompaniment in quarto format and in 8vo both as standalones. Given the binding configuration of this set it usually appears in four volumes it is possible that this set was bound up from the parts issue. The New Testament is bound in two volumes with general title in 1st volume only and what usually appears as volume one is here present in two volumes with the general title in the first and the second beginning with Ruth. ESTC locates three sets: BL Newport Central and Washington State. HERBERT 1366. ESTC T95096. Printed for Bellamy and Roberts unknown

The first joint publication of the Old and New Testaments as an entity in the Hawaiian language printed for the American Bible Society at the Mission Presses in Oahu Old Testament and Honolulu New Testament. A number of printings of various books or groups of books of the Bible were printed as early as 1827 and the first Hawaiian printing of the New Testament appeared in 1835 with the Old Testament following in 1838. These printings are frequently found bound together although issued separately. This is the first publication of the complete approved text as an entity paginated continuously and issued as one book. The New Testament has its own titlepage p.1129 and imprint. The verso of the first titlepage bears the words "Ka lua o ke pai ana" the second printing referring to the only other printing of the entire Old Testament in 1838 at the same press. A second printing of the entire Bible was made later in 1843; but curiously enough Judd et al record no other complete printing of the Bible in the Hawaiian language through 1899.
