Montecalerio Ioannis
Nova delineatio universalis 56 Provinciarum...

Rara. Taken from the “Chorographica Descriptio Provinciaru & Conventum F. F. Minorum S. Francisci Capucinorum...”.The atlas of the Capuchin provinces was initiated in manuscript form by the minister general of the order, Father Silvestro from Panicale in 1632 and was to serve as an aid for geographic General visits. At his death, the successor Father Giovanni from Montecaliero, which is often mistakenly attributed the authorship of maps, commissioned by his father Massimino Guechen to continue the work. The engravers of the plates were executed by Massimino from Guechen, Bernardino Burdigalensis and Ludovico Monteregali. The first edition was printed in Rome in 1643, the second in Turin in 1649 and then in 1654 and finally released in 1712, another convention attribute maps to Montecalerio. The work showed visually the spread of the order, in fact the different maps of the atlas, which represent nations and provinces, to offer each of them the full statistical convents.Copperplate, very good condition. Rare.

The Prince of Princes: The Life of Potemkin
New York: Thomas Dunne Books an imprint of St. Martin's Press 2001. First Edition. Hardcover. As New/As New. Large 8vo 9" - 10. Massively heavy oversized volume.Fine-looking structurally sound hardcover little discernible wear bright interior unmarked. Gray cloth over boards with silver-stamped lettering to spine. Bright and shiny dust jacket illustrated little worn. From the publisher's blurb " Great love affairs help change history. Catherine the Great of Russia and Grigory Potemkin certainly belong to the list. The name 'Potemkin' is best-known today for a battleship mutiny at the time of the Russian revolution rather than as the one-eyed fat vain autocratic lover of Russia's Empress Catherine the only man she treated as an equal who commanded her armies helped her rule the country and develop the Russian empire. POTEMKIN's life is about power lust and love as enthralling a love story as any fiction. Born of a loveless marriage he worked his way up through the ranks of the Russian army. He first met the Empress Catherine while he was on guard duty in St Petersburg. German-born she was married at fourteen for dynastic reasons but her marriage was never consummated. She took a procession of lovers but showed the longest fidelity to Potemkin. The thousands of letters he and Catherine exchanged often several times each day are one of the sources of Simon Sebag Montifiore's new biography. As a soldier and consummate politician Potemkin's legacy was to secure the boundaries of Russia to the south that we know today. When he died aged only fifty en route to assume the mantle of King of Poland Catherine went into a depression from which she never fully recovered. Sebag Montefiore who worked in Russia for the Sunday Times among other newspapers speaks the language fluently and has taken advantage of the opening up of hitherto closed Russian archives." Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of e.g. notes index and bibliography. xiv 1 2-634 pp.Member I.O.B.A. C.B.A. and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes and for sets. Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin's Press hardcover
