1977ref. 022334Beverly Hills: Tri-Sigma Sorority Publisher 1977. Wraps. Good. Yellow wraps roughly 8 ½ by 11 inches. 16 pp. including covers. Early issue of this zine devoted to heterosexual crossdressing. It originated in a more zine-like format in the late 1970s before adopting a more polished magazine-style look in the 1980s. The zine served as the official publication of the Tri-Ess Society an organization founded by Virginia Prince to destigmatize crossdressing. Prince held anti-trans and sometimes homophobic views that excluded the transgender community. Under the leadership of Carol Beecroft the organization became more inclusive forming alliances with LGBTQ groups and helping to form the Southern Comfort Conference a gathering of transgender people. This issue edited by Carol Beecroft. Includes make up tips and an article describing the trouble faced by a teenage "transvestite" in their household. GOOD condition. Large dampstain affecting most of the zine resulting in brownish discoloration and some rippling to the paper. Minor soiling and staining. Tri-Sigma Sorority, Publisher unknown

1963ref. 222801963. Cauldwell David O. Transvestism.Men in Female Dress. New York: Sexology Corp. 1963. Third edition. 128 pages. Paperback with bright red wrappers and illustration of a man's silhouette with a feminine shadow. 8vo. Contains 41 black and white photographs and illustrations most of self-identified "transvestites" or "female impersonators". This early study of transvestism edited by Dr. David Oliver Cauldwell who first coined the term "transsexual" examines the practice of cross-dressing in relation to homosexuality and childhood development. The books compiles a variety of essays in two parts; those by writers and medical professionals speculating on the nature and origin of transvestism and those by self-identified "transvestites" speaking on their own experiences. The former includes writings by noted sexologist Harry Benjamin and psychiatrist and science fiction writer David H. Keller. The book is notable for its focus on the lived experiences of trans-identifying individuals taking the study out of the realm of pure scientific speculation and into a humanistic approach which engages with people who practice transvestism some of whom identify strongly as men and others who prefer to identify as women. Though the book uses terms and scientific theories which may be considered outdated or offensive today it is overall remarkably progressive for the time and sets out in good faith to understand what was in the 1950s an extremely taboo subject. Dustjacket worn at edges chipped at top and bottom of spine and has two small tears to lower front cover. Light wear and discoloration to spine and soiling on back wrapper. Inner pages clear and binding tight. Very good condition overall. An early study on transvestism including essays from queer and trans individuals. unknown

19761,025 pages. "Includes papers on a variety of topics, especially aeronautics. Early work of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics on aircraft stability and control appears in the first section and is followed by original contributions in airfoil theory, including theories of sweptback and slender airfoils. Several papers are devoted to the theory of minimum drag and to the theory of the oblique wing. Papers on geometrical optics appear next. Perhaps the most significant of these is the design of a fast (F/.66) monochromatic lens based on an inversion of the Schmidt arrangement. Several papers based on work of Avco-Everett Research Laboratory on cardiac assist devices are included and show elementary applications of fluid dynamics to the design of blood pumps and in particular the intra-aortic baloon pump. The last section presents some simple heuristic techniques in relatistic kinematics - based on conformal coordinates in two dimensions. Here the application to space-like motions provide an interesting duality with einsteinian kinematics." - from Abstract. Above-average but not excessive wear. Binding intact. Unmarked. Two inch tape repair to top of front cover at spine. A sound copy. Book
